Culture e società dell’Asia
Argomenti e articolazione del corso
Il corso tratterà di due aspetti fondamentali nella costruzione delle moderne società locali e nazionali in Asia: le pratiche di welfare e le relazioni di lavoro. Grazie all'impianto teorico di Erica Bornstein, si acquisiranno criteri di analisi specifici al dono e alla filantropia che l'autrice ha sviluppato nelle sue ricerche in India. Temi quali la povertà, le identità lavorative e le piccole e grandi migrazioni saranno poi affrontati nell'insieme della regione sudestasiatica e in alcuni casi indonesiani.
Obiettivi
Con questo insegnamento, con una costante e partecipata frequenza alle lezioni, si intendono PROMUOVERE i seguenti apprendimenti, in termini di:
- Conoscenze e comprensione delle relazione di aiuto in Asia, con particolare atenzione al Sudest Asiatico;
- Capacità di mettere in relazione conoscenze e modelli fra loro differenziati
- Capacità di applicare conoscenze e modelli asiatici per una comprensione generale degli stessi fenomeni in altre aree del mondo.

Lezioni frontali. Visione e discussione di materiale visivo o di altro genere provieniente dal campo di ricerca. Discussione su testi.

Cultures and societies of Asia
Topics and course structure
The course will deal with two fundamental aspects in the identity-process of modern, local and/or national societies in Southeast Asia: practices of welfare and work relationships. THanks to Erica Bornstein's theorisation on gift and philanthropy in India, poverty, work-related migration and notions of work will be analysed for the whole of Southeast Asia and, more specifically, in the case of Indonesia.
Objectives
The course aims to develop basic knowledge and understanding of welfare relationships in Asia, with a special focus on Southeast Asia.
The students will be required to connect the different parts of the course and develop a personal standpoint.
This will enable them to use the Asian experience as a general tool in the analysis of similar phenomena in other parts of the world.

Assessment methods
Oral exam. Assessment of the students’ participation to ethnographies, to discussions about films and texts and to oral presentations.
