Obiettivi formativi
Il corso mira di offrire gli studenti chiare spiegazioni grammaticali unitamente ad una ampia varietà di attività ed esercizi. L’obiettivo è di consolidare le competenze grammaticali e lessicali dello studente e di condurlo ad un buon livello di interazione comunicativa in un contesto aziendale internazionale. Ciascuna lezione non si incentra soltanto sul consolidamento di strutture grammaticali essenziali, ma introduce via via anche argomenti specifici di taglio economico internazionale, che presentano e sviluppano il lessico specialistico in autentici contesti commerciali e aziendali. Tutte le unità pari implementano lo sviluppo delle funzioni linguistiche in specifiche situazioni focalizzando il registro e la correttezza stilistica.
Contenuti sintetici
Il corso dovrà fornire gli strumenti linguistici, utili per interagire in un contesto economico e aziendale internazionale. Si offre un approccio tematico all’acquisizione di strategie di lettura in un ambito specialistico quale quello economico, attivando in tempi brevi la capacità ricettiva della lingua scritta al fine di permettere agli utenti di affrontare materiali autentici in modo autonomo. Chi legge, infatti, deve imparare a gestire il lessico particolarmente ricco ed eterogeneo che va a caratterizzare i diversi linguaggi specialistici nell’ambito delle scienze economiche. Sono consolidate le competenze grammaticali e sviluppate le abilità comunicative, utili per interagire in un contesto economico e aziendale internazionale. Il tema esplorato nelle letture di taglio economico è l’immagine dell’Italia attraverso articoli tratti da giornali e riviste di settore quali “The Financial Times”, “Times”, “The Economist”, “The Guardian”. Gli articoli selezionati sono raccolti in una dispensa dal titolo New Images of Italy che viene aggiornata ogni anno.
· Conoscere bene le strutture della lingua per essere in grado di affrontare situazioni comunicative in ambito commerciale e possedere il lessico necessario per esprimersi in situazioni sociali, aziendali e commerciali.
· Scrivere e leggere comunicazioni di azienda con facilità.
· Approfondire l’uso e la comprensione a livello intermedio-avanzato, fino a quando gli studenti sapranno essere autonomi e effettivi nell’uso della lingua commerciale.
· Vocabolario fondamentale per l’azienda attraverso l’uso del libro di testo. Parlare di mestieri; doveri e responsabilità. Descrizione di ditte: struttura e operazioni.
· Il corso si prefigge di sviluppare la capacità ricettiva della lingua scritta praticando le varie strategie di lettura atte ad affrontare testi di argomento specialistico in ambito economico. Mira a fare acquisire allo studente una solida base linguistica incentrata sui linguaggi settoriali, pertinenti alle discipline studiate nel corso di laurea in Economia.
Programma esteso
La partecipazione dell’Italia nell’ambito del mondo commerciale richiede da parte di chi opera nel mondo del lavoro una conoscenza delle lingue e delle culture straniere. Gli studenti sono quindi sollecitati a prepararsi molto seriamente in campo linguistico, dedicando il tempo necessario all’acquisizione e/o al perfezionamento delle competenze della lingua Inglese. Il corso mira a fornire agli studenti le abilità linguistiche necessarie per operare nel mondo internazionale del business.
Autonomia di giudizio
Si offre un approccio tematico all’acquisizione di strategie di lettura in un ambito specialistico quale quello economico, attivando in tempi brevi la capacità ricettiva della lingua scritta al fine di permettere agli utenti di affrontare materiali autentici in modo autonomo. Chi legge, infatti, deve imparare a gestire il lessico particolarmente ricco ed eterogeneo che va a caratterizzare i diversi linguaggi specialistici nell’ambito delle scienze economiche.
Abilità communicative
Attenzione sarà data al linguaggio funzionale comunicativo; scambio di informazioni verbali e scritte, negoziare riunioni, descrizione di procedure e prodotti, socializzazione con i clienti. Si concentra quindi sul linguaggio specialistico nel mondo commerciale: vendita, informatica, finanza, investimento, “international business” e sviluppo del mercato. Si avvale di materiale autentico e aggiornato tratto da pubblicazioni a stampa (quotidiani, settimanali, riviste di settore e da internet).
Capacità di apprendimento
Il corso si propone il duplice obiettivo della revisione e del consolidamento delle competenze linguistiche di base inserendole nel contesto dei linguaggi di specialità che caratterizzano i vari ambiti del Business English.
Prerequisiti
E’ richiesto livello A2/B1 in partenza. Per gli studenti che non hanno ancora raggiunto tale livello e previsto l’offerta di corsi di base, per poi permettere gli studenti di frequentare i corsi di lingua inglese 1, nell’anno accademico successivo.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Ci sono 2 modalità per accedere all’esame ufficiale di ‘English for economics and business’ (6cfu)
1. Essere in possesso di un certificato internazionale riconosciuto della sezione di lingua inglese. Una copia deve essere dato ai responsabili dei corsi di laurea 2 settimane prima dell’esame.
2. Superare la prova informatizzata.
L’esame consiste in una prova informatizzata e una prova scritta:
1. Prova informatizzata
· La prova informatizzata prevede 45 domande ‘multiple choice’, e 35 minuti di tempo per rispondere.
· Solo chi supera la prova informatizzata, con un esito di minimo 25 su 45, potrà svolgere l’esame finale di lingua inglese 1 (6 cfu) - ‘English for economics and business’.
· Ci saranno 6 possibilità di sostenere la prova informatizzata durante l’anno academico: gennaio / febbraio / aprile / giugno / luglio / settembre
· Per accedere alla prova informatizzata gli studenti devono: portare il badge dell’ Ateneo. Non sarà possibile svolgere la Parte A informatizzata in mancanza del badge.
· Il risultato della Parte A informatizzata è valido soltanto per 3 appelli:
2. Esame finale
L’esame finale di lingua inglese 1 (6 cfu) - ‘English for economics and business’ consiste in una prova di comprensione della lettura di un testo economico. costituita da 50 domande / tempo 90 min.
*non è permesso l’uso del dizionario né bilingue né monolingue.

Learning objectives
The course aims to offer
students clear explanations of grammar, together with a wide variety of
activities and exercises. The objective is to strengthen the skills of grammar
and vocabulary of the student and lead to a good level of communicative
interaction in an international business environment. Each lesson focuses not
only on the consolidation of basic grammatical structures, but also gradually
introduces specific topics of an international economic nature, which present
and develop the specialized vocabulary in authentic contexts, commercial and corporate.
All units help the development of language functions in specific situations
focusing on the register and stylistic correctness.
Contents
The course will provide the linguistic tools which are useful to interact in a changing economic and international business world. It offers a thematic approach to the acquisition of reading strategies in a specialized field such as economics, developing students’ capacity to understand the written word in order to allow users to deal with authentic materials on their own. Who reads, in fact, must learn to manage the particularly rich and varied vocabulary that goes to characterize the different specialist languages in the field of economics. Grammar skills are consolidated and developed as are the communication skills which are useful to interact in a business environment and international business. The themes explored in the readings are taken from articles from newspapers and magazines such as "The Financial Times", "Times", "The Economist", "The Guardian".
Students will learn to:
• Write and read business communications with ease.
• Deepen their language skills at intermediate-advanced level, until they become autonomous and effective in the use of business language.
• learn vocabulary critical to business through the use of the textbook. Speaking about trade; duties and responsibilities. Description of premises: structure and operations.
• The course aims to develop the written language by practicing various reading strategies for coping with texts by subject specialists in the economic sphere. It aims to make the student acquire a solid foundation focused on linguistic jargons, relevant to the disciplines studied in the graduate program of Economics.
Detailed program
The participation of Italy in the context of world trade requires on the part of those who work in the business world a knowledge of languages and foreign cultures. Students are therefore expected to prepare very seriously in the linguistic field, dedicating the time necessary for the acquisition and / or improvement of skills of the English language. The course is designed to provide students with the language skills necessary to operate in the international world of business. The course offers a thematic approach to the acquisition of reading strategies in a specialized field such as the economy, developing the students capabilities in the written language in order to allow them to deal with authentic materials on their own. Who reads, in fact, must learn to manage the particularly rich and varied vocabulary that goes to characterize the different specialist languages in the field of economics.
Communication skills
Attention will be given to functional language communicative; exchange of
verbal and written information, negotiating meetings, description of procedures
and products, socializing with clients. It then focuses on the specific
language of the business world: sales, IT, finance, investment,
"international business" and market development. It uses material
taken from authentic and updated publications in print (newspapers, weeklies,
magazines and the internet).
Learning skills
The course offers the dual purpose of the revision and consolidation of basic
language skills by putting them in the context of languages that characterize
the various speciality areas of ‘Business. English’.
Prerequisites
A required level A2/B1
to frequent the course. For students who have not yet reached that level, the
English Department offers basic courses and then allow students to take the
English 1 course, the following academic year.

Assessment methods
There are two ways
to be accepted to sit for the final exam of English 1 (6 university credits), ‘English for economics and business’
1. To be in
possession of an international certificate recognised by the English language
section of the Economics and Statistics School. A copy of which must be given
to the course coordinator 2 weeks before the exam.
2. To pass the computer test.
The exam consists of two parts:
1 . The computer test
· There are 45 questions and the test lasts 35 minutes.
· The student must have at least 25 correct answers.
· It will not be possible to sit for the final English language exam; ‘English for economics and business’, without having passed this computer test, or without being in possession of an international certificate.
· There are 6 opportunities to sit the computer test: January, February, April, June, July, September
· The result of the computer test is valid for 3 subsequent exams.
2. The final exam. English 1 ( 6 credits); ‘English for economics and business’.
The exam consists of a written test: a reading comprehension of a text. There are 50 questions and the exam lasts 90 minutes.* The use of either bilingual or monolingual dictionary is not allowed.
