Obiettivi formativi
Obiettivi dell'insegnamento: fornire conoscenze e competenze avanzate sulle principali teorie sociali e politiche contemporanee; sviluppare la capacità di cogliere le connessioni tra approcci contemporanei e teorie classiche; esercitare la capacità di applicare modelli teorici all’analisi di fenomeni e processi sociali.
Tra i risultati di apprendimento attesi, alla conclusione del corso lo studente: avrà acquisito familiarità con i concetti impiegati dalle teorie sociologiche contemporanea e sarà in grado di riconoscere le diverse visioni interpretative e le modalità di analisi da essa elaborate; avrà affinato la capacità di applicare concetti e teorie all’analisi dei processi sociali.
Contenuti sintetici
Il corso si articola in due parti. La prima parte offre una panoramica dei principali approcci di teoria sociale e politica contemporanea. La seconda parte affronta alcuni dei temi chiave che hanno caratterizzato il dibattito nelle scienze sociali: la relazione individuo-società, l’analisi delle forme del potere, le interpretazioni della modernità contemporanea e il mutamento sociale, la globalizzazione e i processi di individualizzazione.

Conoscenza di base delle principali teorie sociali e politiche classiche
Metodi didattici
Lezioni frontali in aula; lavori individuli e di gruppo sulla base di letture assegnate durante il corso.
Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
La prova d'esame è costituita da un colloquio orale sugli argomentati affrontati nel corso ; sono previste anche prove in itinere basate su relazioni e saggi brevi con esposizione in aula per esercitare le capacità comunicative e favorire la comprensione dei concetti.

Learning objectives
To provide advanced knowledge and skills on the main contemporary social and political theories; to develop the ability to grasp the connections between contemporary approaches and classical theories; to exercise the ability to apply theoretical models to the analysis of social phenomena and processes.
Among the expected learning outcomes, by the end of the course the student will: have become familiar with the concepts employed by contemporary sociological theories and will be able to recognise the different interpretative visions and modes of analysis elaborated by them; have refined the ability to apply concepts and theories to the analysis of social processes.
Contents
The course is divided into two parts. The first part provides an overview of the main approaches in contemporary social and political theory. The second part deals with some of the key themes that have characterised the debate in the social sciences: the individual-society relationship, the analysis of forms of power, interpretations of contemporary modernity and social change, globalisation and processes of individualisation.

Dramaturgical approach and order of interaction
Structuralism and poststructuralism
The cultural and interpretative turn

Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of the main classical social and political theories
Teaching methods
Classroom lectures; individual and group work based on assigned readings during the course.
Assessment methods
Oral examination on the topics covered in the course; there will also be in itinere tests based on reports and short essays with classroom exposition to practise communication skills and foster understanding of the concepts.
