Contenuti sintetici
L’insegnamento è suddiviso in due moduli tematici. Un modulo si concentra sui fondamenti della comunicazione: le sue caratteristiche essenziali e funzioni, la sua evoluzione, principali punti di vista sulla comunicazione, il concetto di intenzione, i sistemi di comunicazione non verbale, la comunicazione delle emozioni. Il secondo modulo si concentra sulla presentazione e analisi di casi specifici e studi sperimentali sulla comunicazione parlata e segnata, con particolare attenzione alla configurazione che specifici fenomeni comunicativi (es. ironia) assumono nella comunicazione parlata e segnata.

- Che cos’è la comunicazione? Dimensioni e funzioni della comunicazione, rapporto tra linguaggio e comunicazione, la multicomponenzialità della comunicazione e della competenza comunicativa.
- In che misura il linguaggio si è evoluto nella nostra specie per favorire la comunicazione?
- Principali approcci alla comunicazione: il punto di vista matematico, pragmatico e relazionale.
- Si può non comunicare? La distinzione tra comportamento informativo e atto comunicativo e la centralità del concetto di intenzionalità.
- La comunicazione non verbale: comunicare attraverso il volto e il corpo.
- Il significato delle frasi oltre a ciò che è detto: atti linguistici espliciti e impliciti e il significato del parlante.
- Ciò che è detto e ciò che è comunicato
- Il linguaggio figurato: metafora e ironia nella lingue parlate e segnate
Prerequisiti
Si assume che gli studenti abbiano già superato l’esame di Linguistica (esame obbligatorio del primo anno), e quindi alcune nozioni relative alla struttura del linguaggio vengono date per scontate. Si invitano gli studenti che non avessero (ancora) sostenuto l’esame di Linguistica a segnalare al docente (via e-mail o in presenza) eventuali carenze, al fine di concordare attività di sostegno.
Metodi didattici
Oltre alle lezioni frontali in aula, parte della didattica avverrà tramite la discussione di articoli scientifici, e la visione e commento di filmati.
Tutto il materiale (dispense delle lezioni e, quando possibile, articoli scientifici e filmati) viene reso disponibile sul sito e-learning del corso, perché sia fruibile anche dagli studenti non-frequentanti.
Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
L’esame è scritto, e prevede domande chiuse e aperte. Saranno presenti domande relative al primo (Amenta) e al secondo modulo (Panzeri).
Le domande sono volte ad accertare l’effettiva acquisizione sia delle conoscenze teoriche, sia della capacità di analizzare un caso reale di comunicazione. I criteri di valutazione sono: la correttezza delle risposte, la capacità di argomentare, sintetizzare, creare collegamenti, e leggere criticamente la realtà.
L’esame scritto è superato se si ottiene la sufficienza alle domande di entrambi i moduli. Il voto finale sarà la media dei voti ottenuti nei due moduli.
Per gli studenti che lo richiedano, è previsto anche un colloquio orale, su tutti gli argomenti del corso, che può portare fino a un aumento o decremento di 3 punti sul punteggio dell’esame scritto. Il colloquio orale è riservato agli studenti che abbiano raggiunto la sufficienza nell’esame scritto.

Contents
The course is divided into two thematic modules. One module focuses on the fundamentals of communication: its essential characteristics and functions, its evolution, main views on communication, the concept of intention, nonverbal communication systems, communication of emotions. The second module focuses on the presentation and analysis of specific cases and experimental studies on spoken and signed communication, with special attention to the configuration that specific communicative phenomena (e.g., irony) take in spoken and signed communication.

- What is communication? Dimensions and functions of communication, relationship between language and communication, the multicomponentiality of communication and communicative competence.
- To what extent has language evolved in our species to facilitate communication?
- Main approaches to communication: the mathematical, pragmatic and relational point of view.
- Is it possible not to communicate? The distinction between informational behavior and communicative act and the centrality of the concept of intentionality.
- Nonverbal communication: communicating through the face and body.
- The meaning of sentences beyond what is said: explicit and implicit speech acts and the speaker's meaning.
- What is said and what is communicated
- Figurative language: metaphor and irony in spoken and sign languages
Prerequisites
It is assumed that students have already passed the Linguistics exam (mandatory exam of the first year), and therefore some notions related to language structure are taken for granted. Students who have not (yet) taken the Linguistics exam are encouraged to report any deficiencies to the teacher in order to arrange support activities.
Teaching methods
In addition to face-to-face lectures in the classroom, part of the teaching will take place through discussion of scientific articles, and viewing and commenting on videos.
All materials (lecture handouts and, when possible, articles and videos) are made available on the e-learning page of the course.
Assessment methods
The exam is written, and includes closed and open questions. There will be questions related to the first (Amenta) and second module (Panzeri).
The questions aim to ascertain the effective acquisition of both theoretical knowledge and the ability to analyze a real communication case. The evaluation criteria are: the correctness of answers, the ability to argue, synthesize, make connections, and critically read reality.
To pass the written exam, both modules need to be sufficient. The final grade will be the average of the marks obtained in the two modules.
For students who request it, there is also an oral exam, on all course topics, which can result in up to a 3-point increase or decrease on the written exam score. The oral exam is reserved for students who have achieved a passing grade in the written exam.
