Obiettivi formativi

L’insegnamento (10 CFU) si propone di fornire le conoscenze necessarie per effettuare delle analisi di mercato approfondite e per disegnare degli esperimenti utili ai fini delle decisioni di marketing. Al termine dell’insegnamento, lo studente dovrà dimostrare di conoscere le fonti da cui ottenere i dati da analizzare in base alle esigenze conoscitive; conoscere i metodi statistici da applicare ai dati; interpretare correttamente i risultati delle analisi effettuate.

Parte di Analisi Quantitative di Mercato:

  • le fonti di dati;
  • l’analisi del comportamento d’acquisto;
  • l'analisi del mercato obiettivo;
  • la previsione della domanda.

Parte di Piani Sperimentali per il Marketing:

  • disegni campionari;
  • piani degli esperimenti a uno o più fattori;
  • modelli lineari;
  • modelli lineari generalizzati.

Parte di Analisi Quantitative di Mercato:

1. Le analisi quantitative di mercato:

a. gli scopi delle analisi di mercato;

b. le fasi dello sviluppo di un’analisi di mercato;

c. le fonti dei dati.

2. L’analisi del mercato obiettivo:

a. la stima del potenziale di mercato;

b. il posizionamento della marca;

c. il lancio di un nuovo prodotto;

d. l’analisi della quota di mercato del prodotto e della marca;

3. L’analisi del comportamento d’acquisto:

a. la segmentazione dei clienti;

b. l’analisi della scelta tra marche.

4. La previsione della domanda:

a. L'analisi della serie storica delle vendite.

Parte di Piani Sperimentali per il Marketing:

Richiami e ripasso di argomenti di statistica: Indicatori statistici, variabile casuale, valore atteso, varianza e relative proprietà. Principali variabili casuali: normale, t di Student, Chi-quadrato, F di Fisher. Stima puntuale della media e della varianza. Verifiche d’ipotesi per la media nel caso di campionamento da normale. Introduzione al software R con cui applicare esercizi di statistica.

Piani sperimentali completamente casualizzati ad un fattore: descrizione del disegno sperimentale e obiettivi. Specificazione del modello che interpreta la variabile dipendente quantitativa, interpretazione dei parametri e assunzioni. Test d'ipotesi da testare sui parametri del modello. Stima e verifica d'ipotesi con parametri noti e non noti. Scomposizione della devianza campionaria totale in devianza “fra” (within) e devianza “nei” (between) gruppi. Stimatore della varianza basato sulla devianza “nei” gruppi e stimatore della varianza basato sulla devianza “fra” gruppi: definizioni, valore atteso, distribuzione di probabilità. Costruzione della statistica test. Tabella Anova. p-value. Indicatori statistici. Applicazioni.

Piani sperimentali a due fattori completamente casuale: descrizione del disegno sperimentale e obiettivi. Il modello che interpreta la variabile dipendente dipendende quantitativa, interpretazione dei parametri, ipotesi assunte e grafici utili per i parametri degli effetti principali e dei parametri di interazione. Descrizioni delle ipotesi da testare. Scomposizione della devianza campionaria totale: devianza dovuta al primo fattore, devianza dovuta al secondo fattore, devianza dovuta all’interazione fra i due fattori, devianza dovuta all’errore. Costruzione della statistica test. Tabella Anova. Applicazioni.

Modello lineare con variabili qualitative: richiami del modello lineare, delle assunzioni su cui si basa e della stima dei parametri. Specificazione del modello con una covariata quantitativa e una qualitativa a due livelli. Specificazione del modello con una covariata quantitativa e una qualitativa a più livelli. Modello lineare con iterazioni tra variabili e con più covariate qualitative. Interpretazione del modello, dei test d'ipotesi sui parametri e implementazione. Applicazioni.

Estensione di quanto visto coi modelli lineari ai modelli lineari generalizzati: accenni su specificazione del modello con una covariata quantitativa e una qualitativa a due livelli. Interpretazione del modello e applicazioni.
Le applicazioni verrano in parte svolte col supporto del software statistico R.

Prerequisiti

Si raccomanda una solida conoscenza della statistica descrittiva e inferenziale.

Metodi didattici

L'insegnamento consiste in 70 ore di lezioni svolte in modalità erogativa.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

La verifica dell'apprendimento consiste in un esame scritto per ogni modulo, che contiene domande aperte, domande a risposta chiusa ed esercizi.
Il voto dell'esame è espresso in trentesimi.

Learning objectives

The course (10 credits) aims at providing the knowledge needed to perform market analyses and to design experiments for providing information supporting management decisions. By the end of the course, students are expected to acquire the knowledge of the data sources useful to meet information needs, the ability to apply statistical methods to data, the ability to correctly interpret results.

Part of Quantitative Market Analysis:

  • data sources;
  • analysis of purchasing behaviour;
  • analysis of target market;
  • sales forecasting.

Part of Design of Experiments for Marketing:

  • single factor experimental designs;
  • multiple factor experimental designs;
  • linear models;
  • generalized linear models.

Detailed program

Part of Quantitative Market Analysis:

1. Quantitative market analyses:

a. definitions and purposes of a market analysis;

b. phases of a market analysis;

c. data sources for market analyses.

2. Analysis of target market:

a. market potential estimation;

b. brand positioning;

c. launch of a new product;

d. market share analysis.

3. Analysis of purchasing behaviour:

a. customer segmentation;

b. brand switching analysis.

4. Demand forecasting:

a. time series analysis for sales forecasting;

Part of Design of Experiments for Marketing:

Review of basic statistic: Statistical indicators, random variables, expected value, variance, and their properties. Random variables: normal, Student's t, Chi-square, Fisher's F. Point estimates of the mean and variance. Hypothesis testing for the mean in the case of sampling from a normal distribution. Introduction to R software for solve statistical problems.

Completely randomized single-factor experimental designs: Description of the experimental design and objectives. Specification of the model interpreting the quantitative dependent variable, interpretation of parameters, and assumptions. Hypothesis testing to be performed on model parameters. Estimation and hypothesis testing with known and unknown parameters. Decomposition of total sample deviance into within-group deviance and between-group deviance. Variance estimator based on within-group deviation and variance estimator based on between-group deviation: definitions, expected value, probability distribution. Construction of the test statistic. Balanced and unbalanced design. ANOVA table. p-value. Statistical indicators. Applications.

Completely randomized two-factor experimental designs: Description of the experimental design and objectives. The model interpreting the dependent quantitative variable, interpretation of parameters, assumed hypotheses, and useful graphs for main effects and interaction parameters. Descriptions of hypotheses to be tested. Decomposition of total sample variance: variance due to the first factor, variance due to the second factor, variance due to interaction between the two factors, variance due to error. Construction of the test statistic. ANOVA table. Applications.

Linear model with qualitative variables: Review of the linear model, assumptions underlying it, and parameter estimation. Specification of the model with one quantitative covariate and one qualitative covariate with two levels. Specification of the model with one quantitative covariate and one qualitative covariate with multiple levels. Linear model with interactions between variables and multiple qualitative covariates. Interpretation of the model, hypothesis testing on parameters, and implementation. Applications.

Extension of linear model concepts to generalized linear models: Specification of the model with one quantitative covariate and one qualitative covariate with two levels. Interpretation of the model, and applications.

The applications will be partly carried out with the support of the statistical software R.

Prerequisites

A solid knowledge of descriptive and inference statistics is recommended.

Teaching methods

The course consists of 70 hours of frontal lessons.

Assessment methods

The assessment of learning outcomes consists of a written exam for each course module, including open questions, close-ended questions and exercises.
The exam score is on a 30-point scale.
