Obiettivi

La ricerca documentale: Saper interrogare in modo avanzato almeno MEDLINE (via PubMed), Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL e Scopus utilizzando operatori booleani, vocabolari controllati (MeSH/Emtree) e filtri metodologici.

Aims

The course aims to provide master's students with advanced methodological tools to support the decisions of healthcare professionals in organizational and/or managerial roles. In particular, tools will be provided to govern the Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) process. At the end of the course, the student will be able to formulate complex clinical-care questions, conduct advanced bibliographic research in major healthcare and biomedical databases, and critically evaluate the methodological quality of the scientific literature to transfer the best evidence into clinical, organizational, and training practice.

Contents

Translate a clinical-organizational doubt into a question structured according to the PICO model or its variants.
Document Search: Know how to advanced query at least MEDLINE (via PubMed), Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, and Scopus using Boolean operators, controlled vocabularies (MeSH/Emtree), and methodological filters.
Critical Appraisal: Knowing how to identify biases (distortions) and apply standardized international checklists to judge the internal and external validity of clinical trials, observational studies, qualitative studies, and systematic reviews.

Detailed program

The Evidence-Based Practice process; Clinical Question Formulation (PICO); database architecture; hierarchical vocabularies (MeSH); advanced search strings in MEDLINE (PubMed), CINAHL, and Cochrane; randomized clinical trials (RCTs), cohort studies, case-control studies, cross-sectional studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses: Main differences and level of evidence for correct orientation in decision-making choices; Risk of bias assessment tools: CASP instruments, Cochrane RoB 2, ROBINS-I, Newcastle-Ottawa scales; Evidence grading guidelines and systems (GRADE); Transferability of findings to the clinical and/or organizational context.
