  • INTERNSHIP

The internship is a training activity that has the aim to introduce the student to the psychologist’s profession in contexts in which behavioral sciences and applied psychology provide employment opportunities, such as academic and private research, public institutions, health agency, agencies that promote social development, communication campaigns, national and international NGOs.

The internship training activity is thought to direct the student’s interest to a specific field among the areas of cognitive neuroscience, cognitive psychology, social cognition, developmental cognitive psychology and experimental clinical psychology. Within this training experience, the student will have the possibility to come in contact with different parts of the psychologist’s activity, as for example the understanding and analysis of the cognitive, behavioral and choice processes that individuals and organizations put into place in public and private situation and the planning of research projects and treatment.

The internship requires a frequency of at least 200 hours for a total of 8 CFU. The frequency must be documented in a booklet that can be found on the website. The booklet must be signed by the internship supervisor and handed to the Ufficio Servizi didattici of the Department of Psychology at the end of the internship.

To start the internship, the student has to achieve at least 24 CFU.

There are two different types of internship:

    -          External internship: It can be carried out at one of the external agencies accredited by the Department of Psychology and affiliated with the University of Milano-Bicocca for this training activity. Information for the activation of the external internship is provided at this link: https://www.unimib.it/servizi/stage-e-tirocini

    -          Internal internship: It is carried out at the Department of Psychology under the supervision of a professor of the Department. The internship has to be activated by the supervisor who is required to send an internship form with the internship project to Ufficio Servizi didattici of the Department of Psychology (psicologia.didattica@unimib.it). During the internship, the student can acquire methodological skills that would be useful for her/his master thesis project; however, data collected during the internship cannot be used for the master thesis project. The student has the possibility to associate the internal internship with his/her Master’s degree thesis within a unitary research project. For example, the student can acquire the methodological skills related to a specific research topic during the internship, and subsequently, apply these skills to data collection/analysis for the thesis project. If the internship will be associated with the Master’s degree thesis, it can be also performed within an Erasmus traineeship program ( for the EU Universities) or within a University extra-exchange program (for the Universities located outside the EU). In this latter case, an agreement between the professor of the University of Milano-Bicocca and the professor of the abroad University must be found.

Once the President of AEPS (or a delegate) has approved the external/internal internship the student will find it on his/her page in the Segreterie online website. The student can start the internship only after the Department approval, as before the approval no insurance coverage will be provided for the training activity.

During the internship, the student can make transfers, but the agency must notify the transfers to the Department by completing the travel form available on the Segreterie online website.

At the end of the external internship, the student has to prepare a final report. The final report has to be sent to Ufficio Servizi didattici along with the booklet; the form for the final report is in the website.

The procedure to follow for finishing the internship and having the credits uploaded to the central database is available on the webpage:  https://www.unimib.it/servizi/bicocca-orienta/servizi-orientamento/stage-e-tirocini/studenti/chiusura-stagetirocinio

Internship normally last 2 or 3 months. If at the end of the agreed period the student has not already reached the total of 200 hours, an extension can be required. This request must be initiated on the Segreterie online webpage by the agency for external internship or by the professor of the Department for internal internship.

The internship is mandatory and strongly recommended. Under exceptional circumstances, however, it can be substituted by attending two extra laboratory courses among the four offered in the first year of the program.

It is possible to obtain the 8CFU for the internship by certifying previous work experiences or training activities. These activities must have been carried out in a context consistent with the employment opportunities provided by the Master’s degree. To recognize these previous experiences the student must send by e-mail to Ufficio Servizi didattici of the Department of Psychology (psicologia.didattica@unimib.it ) this specific form. The request must be approved by the President of AEPS (or a delegate). The Didactic Coordination Board decides on the validation of the training activity. The Student Secretariat (segr.studenti.psicologia@unimib.it) sends the student the recognition resolution to the mail address @campus.unimib.it and uploads the credits to the booklet.

    Announcement:

We inform students that services and consultancy are guaranteed by e-mail,  until further notice, the relative requests must be sent to psicologia.didattica@unimib.it
