To obtain their Master’s degree in Physics, students must:
1) Submit the thesis assignment application to the Student Secretariat (ufficio Servizi didattici);
2) Follow the online thesis assignment procedure.
1. Submitting the Thesis Assignment Application to the Student Secretariat (ufficio servizi didattici)
Once students have agreed on the thesis topic with their supervisor, and before starting their thesis work, they must send their THESIS ASSIGNMENT APPLICATION to the Student Secretariat (ufficio servizi didattici) (didattica.fisica@unimib.it).
Students can submit this application only after earning at least 40 CFUs (credits). The Student Secretariat must receive the application at least 8 months before the student's expected graduation date. A dedicated Committee will evaluate the application, and the Program Board (Consiglio di Coordinamento Didattico) will grant the final approval.
The documents required for the THESIS ASSIGNMENT APPLICATION are available on this page.
2. Online Thesis Assignment Procedure
At the start of the thesis work:
- Once students have submitted their application to the Student Secretariat, they should ask their supervisor to log into their personal "Segreterie Online" (Esse3) portal to register the student as their thesis student.
- After the supervisor has selected the student, the student must log into "Segreterie Online" and follow the instructions provided in the dedicated guide.
Note: The system does not currently send automated notifications when a supervisor selects a student. Students must check their personal page on "Segreterie Online" to see if they have been selected.
Before the deadline for the Graduation Application:
- Once the agreed period of thesis work has been completed, the supervisor will formally approve the thesis title via their personal "Segreterie Online" (Esse3) portal, modifying it if necessary.
- It is the student's responsibility to contact the supervisor to ensure that the thesis assignment and title are approved before the graduation application deadline.
The system will send an automated notification to the student and their main supervisors/co-supervisors once the title is approved by the supervisor.
- Students can submit their Graduation Application (domanda di laurea) only after the supervisor has officially approved the thesis title.
Students must submit their Graduation Application via Segreterie Online (Esse3) following the instructions provided on this page and in accordance with the deadlines specified in the "Calendario sedute di conseguimento titolo", available on this page of the e-learning website.
Final Examination Assessment
The evaluation criteria for the final examination (defense) are detailed in the Final Exam Regulations approved by the Physics and Astrophysics Program Board
