Syllabus del corso
Obiettivi formativi
Offrire un inquadramento generale sul tema del turismo urbano. Mettere lo studente in grado di analizzare le politiche del turismo e del tempo libero attuate dalle grandi città (metropoli italiane, europee, americane e asiatiche), sviluppando capacità analitiche e visione strategica in tema di attrattività e sviluppo turistico locale.
Contenuti sintetici
Il corso affronta il tema del city-based tourism nella nuova dimensione post-fordista che vede le città attrezzarsi e rilanciarsi per diventare nuovamente attraenti nella competizione globale. Consumi culturali, tempo libero e immagine fanno da sfondo all’emersione di elementi specifici di attrattività che verranno dettagliatamente analizzati. Tra questi: i grandi musei, i mega eventi, le opere contemporanee dei grandi architetti e molti altri aspetti che consentono alle città di mantenere posizionamento e reputazione acquisiti.
Programma esteso
Il corso si divide in tre parti. Nella prima parte propone un inquadramento generale sul tema del turismo urbano, affrontando teorie, politiche e pratiche, per poi analizzare le principali strategie di sviluppo turistico e approfondire i temi del marketing territoriale e del city branding.
Nella seconda parte si concentra sull'analisi degli aspetti più rilevanti nella competizione tra le città, affrontando i seguenti dieci elementi di attrazione:
- Green city: l’importanza del verde urbano
- Archistar: la presenza di opere architettoniche di grandi architetti
- Film commission e movie induced tourism
- Waterfront: la riscoperta della risorsa blue
- Musei importanti: traino turistico per eccellenza
- Megaeventi: creare valore a 360°
- Eventi culturali ripetuti
- Lightscape urbano: le luci della città
- Smart e sharing city: accessibilità e connettività
- Heritage tourism: la riscoperta della memoria storica

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Considerata l'emergenza sanitaria e il relativo adeguamento nell'erogazione delle lezioni, oltre alle direttive di Ateneo per la somministrazione degli ESAMI, le modalità di verifica per questo corso sono le seguenti:
Per i frequentanti: è previsto un lavoro in piccoli gruppi (2/3 persone) che, parallelamente ai contenuti delle lezioni, vede la realizzazione di un paper di ricerca e analisi relativamente al posizionamento a livello turistico di una città (considerando i 10 punti di attrazione man mano approfonditi). Il paper di ricerca va consegnato entro il 30 maggio e costituisce materiale di verifica e quindi su questo si baserà il voto finale di ciascuno studente.
IL GIORNO DELL'ESAME (PRIMA DATA APPELLO GIUGNO) si comunicherà il voto. E' possibile richiedere anche un orale extra per alzare eventualmente il voto (l'orale si terrà nella seconda data dell'appello). NB) iscriversi alla prima data dell'appello di giugno per consentirmi di valutare il vostro lavoro e pubblicare il voto
Per i non frequentanti l'esame sarà necessariamente ORALE (nella prima data dell'appello).

Learning objectives
Providing a general framework on the topic of urban tourism, in order to enable the student to analyze tourism & leisure policies implemented by large cities (Italian, European, American and Asian metropolises); and to develop analytical skills and strategic vision in terms of attractiveness and local tourism development.
Contents
The course addresses the theme of city-based tourism in the new post-Fordist dimension that sees cities equipping and relaunching themselves to become attractive again in global competition. Cultural consumption, leisure, and image are the backgrounds to the emergence of specific elements of attractiveness that will be analyzed in detail. These include great museums, mega-events, iconic buildings and many other aspects that allow cities to maintain their acquired positioning and reputation.
Detailed program
The course is divided into three parts. In the first part, it proposes a general framework on the theme of urban tourism, addressing theories, policies, and practices, then analyzing the main strategies of tourism development and deepening the themes of territorial marketing and city branding.
In the second part it focuses on the analysis of the most relevant aspects of the competition between cities, addressing the following ten elements of attraction/distinction:
- Green city: the importance of urban green
- Archistar: the presence of architectural works by great architects
- Film commissions and movie induced tourism
- Waterfront: the rediscovery of the blue resource
- Important museums: tourist towing par excellence
- Megaevents: create 360° value
- Repeated cultural events
- Urban Lightscape: the lights of the city
- Smart and sharing city: accessibility and connectivity
- Heritage tourism: the rediscovery of historical memory
In the third part, students will deepen a case study in light of the 10 elements of attraction/distinction and will prepare a final report of analysis

Assessment methods
considering the health emergency and the university directions the exam will be done in the following way:
For those attending: work in small groups (2/3 people). Working on the contents of the lessons, each group must realize a research &analysis paper on a city considering its touristic positioning based on the 10 points of attraction. The research paper must be delivered by May 30th; it represents the material to verify for the final grade of each student.
it is mandatory to register on the first date of the June call to receive the vote. If you want to raise it you can register ALSO on the second date and take an EXTRA-ORAL exam
For those NOT attending, the exam will be ORAL (register to the first date of the call)
