Syllabus del corso
Learning objectives
By the end of this course, students should:
- better know and understand the nature and sources of international refugee and migrant law and have a critical understanding of its fundamental concepts;
- be able to identify and critically assess the implications of those concepts in the substantive exposition of various issues relating to the protection of refugees and migrants;
- demonstrate an in-depth understanding of various international legal instruments; and
- demonstrate cognisance of the interface between legal regulation of migration/refugee status and the contemporary international order.
Contents
The course will present and analyse the legal
framework that applies to refugees, asylum seekers, forced migrants and
internally displaced persons. The course contemplates the participation of
external experts.
Detailed program
In particular, the following topics will be addressed:
- the sources of international refugee law
- definitions and distinctions between different categories;
- international protection
- the prohibition of refoulement
- procedural aspects
- forced migration by sea
- gender issues in refugee law
- the protection of internally displaced persons
- environmental refugees

Classes will be taught in the English language

Oral exam
Textbooks and Reading Materials
Reading lists will be distributed in advance of the
seminars. Material will also be distributed during the seminars.
