Syllabus del corso
Obiettivi
Scopo del corso è di fornire una conoscenza delle problematiche relative all’astrofisica moderna con particolare riferimento alla astrofisica stellare, extragalattica e alla cosmologia. Alla fine del corso lo studente sarà in grado di descrivere le proprietà delle più importanti sorgenti astrofisiche sia da un punto di vista teorico che osservativo.

Astrofisica stellare. Proprietà delle galassie e degli ammassi di galassie. Processi di accrescimento e astrofisica delle alte energie. Binarie di oggetti compatti ed onde gravitazionali. Modello cosmologico.

- Oggetti compatti: nane bianche, stelle di neutroni e buchi neri
- La Via Lattea, struttura
- Le galassie: morfologia e dinamica
- La scala delle distanza cosmiche e gli strumenti concettuali per la loro misura
- Onde gravitazionali da binarie di oggetti compatti
- Evidenze osservative del modello di Big Bang
- Introduzione alla radiazione cosmica di fondo.
Prerequisiti
Meccanica classica, elettromagnetismo.
Modalità didattica
Il corso è articolato su 48 ore di lezioni frontali svolte dal docente in aula. Durante le lezioni saranno esposte le principali basi teoriche ed osservative dell'astrofisica moderna. Oltre alle lezioni frontali, il docente è anche a disposizione degli studenti, durante l'orario di ricevimento o previo appuntamento fissato via email, per rispondere a domande e a richieste di chiarimenti.

Modalità di verifica del profitto e valutazione
L'esame finale consiste in un esame orale durante il quale lo studente sarà interrogato sulle diverse parti del programma. Lo studente dovrà essere in grado di dimostrare padronanza dei diversi argomenti affrontati a lezione. Non si possono utilizzare libri, formulari ed appunti durante le prove orali.

Aims
The aim of the course is to provide an understanding of the problems related to modern astrophysics with particular reference to stellar and extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology. At the end of the course the student will be able to describe the properties of the most important astrophysical sources both from a theoretical and observational point of view.
Contents
Stellar astrophysics. Properties of galaxies and galaxy clusters. Accretion processes and high energy astrophysics. Compact object binaries and gravitational waves. Cosmological model.

- The Milky Way, structure
- Galaxies: morphology and dynamics
- The cosmic distance scale and the conceptual tools for their measurement
- Gravitational waves from compact object binaries
- Observational evidence of the Big Bang model
- Introduction to cosmic background radiation.

Classical mechanics, electromagnetism
Teaching form
The course is divided into 48 hours of lectures conducted by the teacher in the classroom. During the lessons the main theoretical and observational bases of modern astrophysics will be exposed. In addition to lectures, the lecturer is also available to students, during office hours or by appointment scheduled by email, to answer questions and requests for clarification.

Assessment method
The final exam consists of an oral exam during which the student will be asked about the different parts of the program. The student must be able to demonstrate mastery of the different topics covered in the lessons. Books and notes cannot be used during the oral exam.
