Overview

The course provides an overview of the methods of quantitative data collection and analysis most commonly used in social science research.

The course is divided into three modules. The first module consists of three 3-hour lectures and discusses selected topics in survey methodology.
The second module consists of seven 2-hour lectures and provides a comprehensive introduction to basic econometrics, touching on the following topics: linear regression, limited dependent variable regression, instrumental variable regression, statistical inference.
Finally, the third module consists of three 3-hour lectures and illustrates the theory and application of multilevel regression for both comparative and longitudinal data analysis.

Upon course completion, students should be able to collect and analyze most quantitative data of interest.

Requirements

Students are expected to do the required readings prior to each lecture, participate in all class activities, and complete all homework assignments by the due date.

Grading

Final course grades are determined as follows: 30% class participation; 70% homework.
