Scopo del modulo Storia dell’Odontoiatria è fornire allo studente gli strumenti necessari alla comprensione degli aspetti culturali e sociali dell’odontoiatria moderna, attraverso l’analisi della sua evoluzione storica ed epistemologica. Le conoscenze fornite costituiscono la base per saper adeguatamente collocare l’attività dell’odontoiatra nell'attuale contesto socio-culturale.

Il corso fornisce allo studente nozioni di storia dell'Odontoiatria Greco-Romana, Odontoiatria medievale, Rinascimento, Barocco e Illuminismo, Romanticismo e Positivismo e dell'Odontoiatria nel Novecento. 

Medicina e odontoiatria nelle civiltà antiche; Mondo Greco-Romano; Medioevo; Rinascimento e Barocco; lo sviluppo della figura dell’odontoiatra tra Settecento e Ottocento; la figura del ciarlatano e l'odontoiatria scientifica ottocentesca; Odontoiatria tra Ottocento e Novecento (sviluppo normativo); Medicina e Odontoiatria nel Novecento. 

Patologia e clinica odontoiatrica

Lezioni frontali; il docente promuoverà momenti di discussione tra gli studenti su problemi dell’odontoiatria  e della medicina moderna, coinvolgendo gli studenti e chiedendo loro di riflettere sull'evoluzione del rapporto tra paziente e operatore sanitario e sull'evoluzione del concetto di salute. 

Nella fase emergenza COVID-19, le lezione saranno effettuate per via telematica in asincrono

Secondo semestre

Esame finale: esame scritto a domande chiuse a scelta multipla e singola risposta esatta (15 domande), per valutare le competenze conoscitive e interpretative.

The aim of the module History of Dentistry is to provide students with the tools for understanding the cultural and social aspects of modern dentistry, through the analysis of its historical and epistemological evolution. The knowledge provided is the basis for knowing how to properly place the activity of the dentist in the current socio-cultural context.

The course provides students with notions about the history of Greco-Roman Dentistry, Medieval Dentistry, Renaissance, Baroque and Enlightenment, Romanticism and Positivism and Dentistry in the Twentieth Century.

Dentistry and Medicine in ancient civilizations; Greco-Roman world and Middle Ages; Renaissance and the Baroque period; the development of the figure of the dentist between the Eighteenth and Nineteenth centuries; the figure of the charlatan and the scientific dentistry in the Nineteenth century; legislation in Dentistry between the Nineteenth and the Twentieth century; Medicine and Dentistry in the Twentieth century. 

Dental pathology and clinics

Lectures; the teacher promotes discussion among students on problems related to modern dentistry and medicine, involving students and asking them to reflect on the historical evolution of the relationship between patient and healthcare worker and on the evolution of the concept of health

Final exam: written test with closed multiple-choice questions with only one correct answer (15 questions), in order to evaluate the cognitive and interpretative skills.
