Le conoscenze fornite riguardano i
fondamenti degli aspetti macroeconomici dell'economia dello sviluppo.
Gli obiettivi principali sono quelli di analizzare: (1) Ruolo di fattori geografici e istituzionali nello sviluppo economico, (2) Ruolo ed efficacia degli aiuti internazionali; (3) Problemi di debito sovrano nei paesi in via di sviluppo.

Prerequisiti
È richiesta la conoscenza di concetti fondamentali di micro e di macroeconomia nonché di strumenti di base di econometria.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
L'esame finale consiste in una presentazione (facoltativa) in aula a cura dello studente in cui verranno valutate le competenze e in una prova scritta conclusiva in cui verranno valutate le conoscenze acquisite. Gli studenti verranno valutati in base alla capacità di acquisire e discutere criticamente sia modelli teorici sia modelli empirici.

Learning objectives
The course shall
cover the macroeconomic fundamentals of development economics.
Specifically, the main objectives are to analyze: (1) The role of Geography versus Institutions in economic Development, (2) The link between Foreign Aid and Development, (3) Sovereign Debt problems for developing countries.

Detailed program
Prerequisites
Knowledge of the fundamental concepts of both micro and macroeconomics as well as basic tools of econometrics is required.
Teaching methods
Lectures and students' presentations.
Assessment methods
Final written exam (open questions) and in-class students' presentations. Students will be evaluated according to their capacity to critically analyse both theoretical and empirical models.
