Course Syllabus
Obiettivi formativi
Obiettivo dell'insegnamento è fornire allo studente i concetti di base dell’inferenza statistica applicata all’ambito biomedico.
- concetto di probabilità e di distribuzione di probabilità;
- concetto di stima campionaria e di variabilità di una stima;
- concetto di verifica statistica di un’ipotesi e di test statistico;

Learning objectives
Aim of the course is to introduce students to statistical inference with applications in medicine and epidemiology. Basic statistical concepts will be formally presented, together with an intuitive approach based on simulation. Each topic will be therefore reviewed using examples in biomedical research. Practicals will be handed out and both individual and group homework will allowed.
In particular, the course is addressed to students with no previous background in statistics.

This course will provide knowledge and understanding skills related to:
- concept of probability and probability distribution;
- concept of sample estimation and variability of an estimate;
- concept of statistical test.Contents

During the Covid-19 emergency period, lessons will be conducted in a mixed mode: some face-to-face lessons and mainly asynchronous / synchronous video lessons.Assessment methods
Oral and Written exam
There will be a written and an oral exam according to the guidelines from the instructors. The written exam will be followed by an oral evaluation, based on the topics of the program.
The written and oral exams will assess the student’s knowledge on statistical inference applied to the biomedical field.
During the Covid-19 emergency period, written and oral exams will only be online. They will be carried out using the Zoom and WebEx platforms, and on the e-learning page of the course there will be a public link for access to the examination of possible virtual guest.
