Obiettivi
L’obiettivo del modulo è quello di comprendere il processo di valutazione di nuove tecnologie in ambito sanitario, e di fornire gli elementi necessari per la comprensione e la stesura di report di technology assessment
Contenuti sintetici
Il modulo fornirà agli studenti la conoscenza dei principi e dei metodi utlizzati nel processo di technology assessment. È mostrato l’approccio multidimensionale adottato da agenzie di HTA e sono mostrate le metodologie biostatistiche e economiche adottate al fine di valutare la robustezza delle evidenze disponibili.
Programma esteso
Introduzione al concetto di tecnologie in ambito sanitario. Il processo di approvazione per l’introduzione in commercio e l’inclusione nei sistemi di rimborso nazionale.
L’approccio multidisciplinare previsto dagli assessment di nuove tecnologie. Il ruolo delle agenzie di technology assessment nei sistemi nazionali ed internazionali.
La struttura di report HT. Sintesi delle misure di efficacia clinica adottate. Sintesi delle misure di impatto economico sociale e introduzione ai modelli di Markov.
L’uso delle sistematic review nei report HT. Tecniche per sintetizzare i risultati di diversi studi: forest e funnel plot.
Prerequisiti
Non vi sono corsi mandatori ma gli studenti potranno beneficiare dell’aver seguito i corsi di “biostatistics”, “health economics” e “Turning Clinical Experience Into Research Projects”
Modalità didattica
Lezioni frontali, esercitazioni e lavori in piccoli gruppi. Il Quadro pandemico potrà comportare l’adozione di modalità a distanza o mista anche sulla base di aggiornamenti delle linee guida di ateneo.

Aims
Understanding the process of technology assessment in healthcare, be able to read and structure a HT report
Contents
The course provides students with principle, concepts and methods employed in the technology assessment procedures. Understanding of the multidimensional approaches involved in the HTA, including biostatistics and economic methodology employed in order to assess the Overall Strength of Evidence.
Detailed program
Introduction of new technologies: approval and reimbursement processes.
Multidisciplinary perspective of HTA and role of National and international HTA agencies.
HTA report structure: review of clinical efficacy measures, Review of Economic impact index and complex assessment using Markov model.
Systematic reviews in HTA. How to synthesize results: forest and funnel plot.
Prerequisites
There are no mandatory courses however students will benefit from having undertaken “biostatistics”, “health economics” and “Turning Clinical Experience Into Research Projects”.
Teaching form
Frontal lesson, exercise and small group activities. The pandemic trend may require to move from frontal to remote or blended option based also on the updates in university guidelines.

Assessment method
Exam will consist of a case report prepared by each student. The case presented will be the base for the oral examination, further details will be provided during the course
