Aims
To know the theoretical and
practical skills in
ultrasound scanning to support the obstetrical and gynecological examination
Contents
The “office” ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology is a scanning performed to support the obstetrical/gynecological examination. Its aim is to add diagnostic data that can be used to complete the examination. Midwives can use ultrasound scanning as support tool for the detection of maternal and fetal parameters during pregnancy and labor in order to assess the timeliness and the accuracy of normal pregnancy and childbirth evolution. The parameters measured by office ultrasound do not require any report and integrate the information disclosed by a routine midwife examination. They will be useful in case of pregnancy complication.
The course’s aims are to provide the basic knowledge to use the scanning (a) in the first trimester of pregnancy (by transvaginal and abdominal scan); (B) in the second and third trimester of pregnancy aimed the visualization of the fetal position and the amniotic fluid volume; (C) during labour to support the clinical decisions; (D) in assessment of echogenicity of a mass diagnosed by bimanual exploration (cystic/solid); (E) in monitoring the localization of intra uterine device
