Course Syllabus
Aims
The purpose of the internship is to provide the student with a basic foundation in the diagnosis and management of the principal nephrological syndromes (nephrotic syndrome, nephritic syndrome, isolated urinary abnormalities, acute and chronic renal insufficiency, congenital kidney diseases…)
Contents
This internship provides supervised clinical education in kidney diseases management, including clinical management, exam and procedural skills, interpretation of diagnostic data, patient counseling, development of diagnostic and management plans, and inter professional communication both in inpatient and outpatient setting.
Detailed program
Students should be able to define, describe, and discuss:
- Basic methods of initial evaluation of renal diseases
- Understand the diagnosis treatment and management of nephrotic syndrome, nephritic syndrome, isolated urinary abnormalities, acute and chronic renal insufficiency, congenital kidney diseases...
- Evaluation of various symptoms associated with kidney failure and fluid overload and the basic principles of their management (e.g., reduced urinary output, dyspnea, nausea and vomiting, anorexia, fatigue, coma).
- Indications, contraindications, and complications of dialysis and kidney transplantati
Prerequisites
Attending lessons of the endocrine kidney and urinary track
Teaching form
Attendance and participation at the daily clinical activities and meetings of the Nephrology Unit
