Course title
Language, world, subject
Topics and course structure
We generally tend to think of the language we have as something we can freely use to relate to things around us — such as things —, or within us — such as emotions. In this way, linguistic phenomena would be tripartite into a speaking subject, a world waiting to be said, and a language waiting to be used. Philosophy has never stopped questioning the relationship between these elements, and for us it is a question of primary importance if we think that every formative relationship is traversed by the use of speech. The course intends to problematize the theoretical framework just mentioned through a series of questions such as: what if the world, both the world around us and the inner world, is not something waiting to be said but, rather, something that is produced through our words? What if we ourselves, as locutors, rather than being independent of the language we suppose we use at will, were constituted by the very words we use? And, in either scenario, what kind of use do we make of the words we use?
Objectives
With this teaching, with constant and participatory attendance at lessons, we intend to promote learning in terms of:
Knowledge and understanding
Ability to put in relation different expertises and models
Ability to apply knowledge and models
Methodologies
Frontal lesson
Programme and references for attending students
The course will be divided into three parts: in the first part we will introduce the basics that we will need to try to answer, in the second part, the questions mentioned above; the last part will be given by Prof. Giorgio Bertolotti who will deal with the analysis of emotions.
