Obiettivi
Scopo del modulo Storia della Medicina è fornire allo studente gli strumenti necessari alla comprensione degli aspetti culturali e sociali della medicina moderna, attraverso l’analisi della sua evoluzione storica ed epistemologica. Le conoscenze fornite costituiscono la base per saper adeguatamente collocare l’attività del professionista sanitario nell’attuale contesto socio-culturale.

L’insegnamento si propone di fornire allo studente gli strumenti culturali per comprendere nascita ed evoluzione della medicina e delle professioni sanitarie
Programma esteso
La medicina pre-ippocratica. La nascita della medicina razionale nel mondo classico (Ippocrate e i suoi scritti, la medicina ellenistica, le sette mediche, Galeno). La medicina medioevale (Scuola Medica Salernitana, Medicina monastica, Medicina araba). Medicina e rivoluzione scientifica (Vesalio, Harvey, iatrochimica e iatromeccanica). Medicina e società tra Settecento e Ottocento (Ramazzini, medicina illuministica, Frank, l’impiego della statistica in medicina e l’avvento dell’epidemiologia, la nascita della sanità pubblica). La nascita ottocentesca della biomedicina e le principali scoperte del XIX secolo (anestesia, antisepsi, lo sviluppo della semeiotica e della clinica, i farmaci di sintesi). L’evoluzione del concetto di salute nel Novecento (OMS e principali conferenze internazionali, la nascita dei sistemi sanitari a copertura universale, il sistema sanitario italiano). L’evoluzione della medicina nel Novecento (la rivoluzione farmacologica, evoluzione della chirurgia e la trapiantologia, l’avvento delle tecnologie sanitarie).

Modalità didattica
Lezioni frontali. Durante le lezioni, il docente promuoverà momenti di discussione tra gli studenti su problemi relativi all’evoluzione storica della medicina e delle professioni sanitarie, coinvolgendo gli studenti e chiedendo loro di riflettere su tali problematiche.
Tutte le lezioni sono svolte in presenza: 4 lezioni da 2 ore svolte in modalità erogativa.
La lingua di erogazione è italiana.

Modalità di verifica del profitto e valutazione
Esame finale di Storia della Medicina: Esame scritto a domande chiuse a scelta multipla e singola risposta esatta (10 domande), per valutare le conoscenze di base la comprensione di un argomento e per valutare le competenze conoscitive e interpretative dello studente.

Aims
The aim of the History of Medicine module is to provide students with the necessary tools to understand the cultural and social aspects of modern medicine through the analysis of its historical and epistemological evolution. The knowledge provided forms the basis for appropriately situating the activities of healthcare professionals within the current socio-cultural context.
Contents
The course aims to provide students with the cultural tools to understand the origins and evolution of medicine and healthcare professions.
Detailed program
Pre-Hippocratic Medicine. The rise of rational medicine in the classical world (Hippocrates and his writings, Hellenistic medicine, the “Medical sects”, Galen). Medieval Medicine (Schola Medica Salernitana, monastic medicine, Arabic medicine). Medicine and the Scientific Revolution (Vesalius, Harvey, iatrochemistry and iatrophysics). Medicine and society in Eighteenth and Nineteenth centuries (Ramazzini, The Enlightenment and its impact on medicine, the use of statistics in medicine and the birth of epidemiology, the emergence of public health). The birth of biomedicine and the major discoveries of the nineteenth century (anesthesia, antisepsis, synthetic drugs and the development of semeiotics). The evolution of the concept of health in the twentieth century (WHO and major international conferences, the emergence of health systems with universal coverage, the Italian health system). The evolution of medicine in the twentieth century (the pharmacological revolution, the evolution of surgery and transplantation, the rise of health technologies).

Teaching form
Lectures. During the lessons, the teacher will encourage discussions among students on issues related to the historical evolution of medicine and healthcare professions, engaging students and prompting them to reflect on these topics.
All classes are in a lecture format: 4 two-hour lectures conducted in-person.
The language is Italian.

Assessment method
Final Exam in History of Medicine: Written exam with multiple-choice questions and single correct answer (10 questions), to assess basic knowledge, understanding of a topic, and the student's cognitive and interpretative skills.
