Course Syllabus
Obiettivi
Programma esteso
Dosaggio glucosio
Dosaggio proteico
Elettroforesi e Western Blot
Journal club
Discussione casi clinici
Prerequisiti
Conoscenze scientifiche a livello di scuola secondaria superiore
Periodo di erogazione dell'insegnamento
Semestrale (II)

Sustainable Development Goals
Aims
Students will be able to understand the basic biochemical techniques, to prepare a biochemistry assay of protein, lipid or sugar, under the supervision of qualified laboratory staff and by using an "on-field" approach. A journal club activity on recent scientific literature will be proposed. The last lesson will consist of the discussion of clinical cases and/or Journal club based on the biochemical knowledge learned during the course "Biochemistry I”.
Contents
The students are introduced to the main biochemical techniques and to the instruments, reagents, and materials needed for biochemistry assays (e.g. blood glucose concentration analysis).
Detailed program
Measurement of glucose serum concentration
Protein assay
Electrophoresis and western blotting
Journal club
Clinical cases
Prerequisites
College-level scientific knowledge
Teaching form
In presence laboratory experience
12 hr (3 practical lab experience of 4 hr). Students will be divided in groups of 7/8 people to optimize learning objectives
Online group activity
3 hr (one class)
Textbook and teaching resource
Slides, laboratory protocols and experimental procedures.
Book:
Textbook of biochemistry with clinical correlations, TM Devlin
Semester
1st year, 2nd semester
Assessment method
Assessment of the suitability on the basis of attendance/participation in the laboratory activities.
Knowledge and skills acquired during the Biochemisry Clerkship will be further assessed during the “Biochemistry I” examination, with the modalities there described.
