Laboratorio di Etnografia
Argomenti e articolazione del corso
Il "Laboratorio di Etnografia" propone un'attività pratica che, coinvolgendo direttamente studentesse e studenti, li esponga all'uso degli strumenti e dei metodi del fieldwork nonché all'esperienza etnografica vera e propria.
Che cosa fa, concretamente, un(') antropologo/a sul campo? Questa è la domanda principale (e cruciale) a cui il Laboratorio fornirà una risposta pratica. Ma si proverà anche a rispondere con indicazioni concrete a una serie di domande, conseguenti dalla prima, ma non meno importanti:
- come si organizza una ricerca etnografica?
- come si impostano le domande di ricerca?
- come si prepara il nostro arrivo sul campo?
- come si selezionano i soggetti da coinvolgere?
- come e cosa si osserva?
- come si struttura un’intervista?
- quali sono le problematiche etiche e deontologiche che dobbiamo conoscere prima di affrontare una ricerca?
- come si rendono formalmente o informalmente informati i soggetti sulle finalità della ricerca e sull'uso delle informazioni che forniscono?
- come si trattano e comunicano i dati raccolti/prodotti?
- come è cambiato nel tempo il metodo etnografico?
- quali sono le specificità dell'uso antropologico dell'etnografia rispetto a quello praticato da altre discipline?
La discussione critica di questi temi sarà costantemente accompagnata da esercitazioni pratiche, che aiuteranno le/i partecipanti a prendere dimestichezza con gli strumenti a disposizione. Un confronto interattivo tra tutti i/le partecipanti, mediato dal docente, seguirà le esercitazioni e aiuterà a comprendere il (e riflettere sul) ruolo dell’etnografo/a sul campo.
Studentesse e studenti avranno la possibilità di organizzare e portare avanti una propria ricerca etnografica (su un tema generale che sarà concordato all'inizio del laboratorio) su cui incentrare il percorso e impostare le esercitazioni.
Se sarà logisticamente possibile, poi, verrà organizzata un'uscita sul campo in cui studentesse, studenti e docente saranno coinvolti collettivamente in attività di fieldwork su un terreno e sul tema generale condiviso.
È anche prevista la presenza di antropolog3 ospiti, che presenteranno le loro esperienze di ricerca, soffermandosi sugli aspetti concreti, sulle difficoltà e sulle risorse riscontrate nel loro approccio al campo e risponderanno a domande e dubbi degli studenti e delle studentesse.
N.B. Studentesse e studenti impossibilitate/i all'acquisizione dei 4 CFU tramite partecipazione attiva alle attività del Laboratorio per almeno il 75% delle 40 ore previste (o attraverso gli altri canali previsti dal corso di laurea) potranno contattare PRIMA DELL'INIZIO del Laboratorio il docente titolare e il Docente Assistente dei Laboratori (da definire) per segnalare la propria specifica situazione. Le modalità di acquisizione dei 4 CFU da parte delle studentesse e degli studenti esonerati verrà spiegata nel corso del primo incontro del laboratorio.
Obiettivi
Il Laboratorio di Etnografia si pone l'obiettivo di fornire alle studentesse e agli studenti:
- la conoscenza dei principali metodi di raccolta e di produzione dei dati sul campo;
- la capacità di impostare una ricerca etnografica, dalle fasi preliminari di individuazione del tema generale, alla scelta di un caso di studio, alla formulazione delle domande di ricerca, alla selezione dei partecipanti e alla scelta dei metodi più appropriati per affrontare lo studio;
- la capacità di organizzare, contestualizzare, analizzare e interpretare i dati etnografici raccolti e/o prodotti, alla luce della letteratura di riferimento.
Metodologie utilizzate
La natura della didattica degli incontri del Laboratorio di Etnografia sarà sia erogativa (10%) sia interattiva (90%). Le attività previste sono di tipo esercitativo e laboratoriale e mirano, dunque, al coinvolgimento diretto e alla partecipazione attiva degli studenti e delle studentesse che contribuiranno tangibilmente a questa esperienza didattico-pratica. Non sono previste ore erogate da remoto (fatta eccezione per il primo incontro che, come riportato sopra, sarà trasmesso in streaming per consentire a chi ha chiesto l'esonero - nei tempi e nei modi previsti dal Corso di Laurea - di conoscere le attività previste per l'ottenimento dei 4 CFU).

Materiali didattici specifici saranno indicati agli studenti e alle studentesse nel corso degli incontri previsti.
Programma e bibliografia
Una bibliografia mirata sarà indicata nel corso degli incontri del laboratorio a supporto dei temi trattati e degli interessi specifici dei/delle partecipanti. Non c'è una bibliografia obbligatoria.
Modalità d'esame
L’approvazione dei crediti avviene in relazione alla partecipazione attiva agli incontri del laboratorio e allo svolgimento degli esercizi e delle attività proposte.
Le modalità di acquisizione dei 4 CFU da parte delle studentesse e degli studenti esonerati verrà spiegata dettagliatamente nel corso del primo incontro del laboratorio.
Per la verbalizzazione dei 4 CFU conseguiti con il Laboratorio sarà necessaria l'iscrizione ad uno degli appelli previsti per "Altre conoscenze".

Ethnography Practicum
Topics and course structure
The "Ethnography Practicum" offers a practical activity that directly involves students, exposing them to the use of tools and methods in fieldwork, as well as to the actual ethnographic experience.
The main and crucial question that the Practicum aims to address practically is: "What does an anthropologist do concretely in the field?" However, it also seeks to provide concrete guidance in answering a series of subsequent but equally important questions, such as:
- How is ethnographic research organized?
- How are research questions formulated?
- How do we prepare for our arrival in the field?

- How do we select participants to involve?
- How and what do we observe?
- How is an interview structured?
- What ethical and professional issues should we be aware of before undertaking research?
- How do we formally or informally inform the participants about the research objectives and the use of the information they provide?
- How are the collected/produced data treated and communicated?
- How has the ethnographic method evolved over time?
- What are the specificities of the anthropological use of ethnography compared to its practice in other disciplines?
The critical discussion of these topics will be constantly accompanied by practical exercises that will help participants become familiar with the available tools. An interactive discussion among all participants, mediated by the instructor, will follow the exercises and help understand and reflect upon the role of the ethnographer in the field.
Students will have the opportunity to propose a research project of their interest (about a general topic which will be discussed at the beginning of the practicum) to focus on during the course and shape the exercises accordingly.
If technically feasible, a field trip will be organized where students and the instructor will collectively engage in fieldwork activities on a specific topic within the anthropology of food.
The presence of guest anthropologists is also expected, who will share their research experiences, focusing on practical aspects, challenges, and resources encountered in their fieldwork approach, and answering questions and doubts from students.
Note: Students unable to acquire the 4 CFU (academic credits) through active participation in at least 75% of the 40 scheduled hours of the Practicum (or through other channels provided by the degree program) can contact the responsible instructor and the assistant-instructor of the Practicum BEFORE THE START of the Practicum to report their specific situation. The modes for acquiring the 4 CFU by exempted students will be explained during the first meeting of the Practicum.
Objectives
The Ethnography Practicum aims to provide students with:
- knowledge of the main methods for collecting and producing data in the field;
- the skills to design an ethnographic research, starting from the preliminary stages of identifying a general theme, selecting a case study, formulating research questions, selecting participants, and choosing the most appropriate methods to address the study;
- the skills to organize, contextualize, analyze, and interpret the collected and/or produced ethnographic data in light of relevant literature.
Methodologies
The teaching character of the Ethnography Practicum meetings will be both erogatory (10%) and interactive (90%). The planned activities are exercise and laboratory-based and aim, therefore, at the direct involvement and active participation of students who will tangibly contribute to this educational-practical experience. There are no remotely delivered lectures (except for the first meeting which, as reported above, will be streamed to allow those who have requested exemption - within the timeframe and in the manner provided by the Degree Course - to learn about the activities planned to obtain the 4 CFUs).

Specific teaching materials will be indicated to students during the Practicum meetings.
Programme and references
A specific bibliography will be indicated during the Practicum meetings, accorging to the topics that will be addressed and the specific interests of the students. There is no mandatory bibliography.
Assessment methods
CFUs recognition is in relation to active participation and the carrying out of the exercises and activities proposed by the instructor.
The modes for acquiring the 4 CFU by exempted students will be explained during the first meeting of the Practicum.
Registration for one of the scheduled exam appointments for “Altre conoscenze” will be required for the verbalization of the 4 CFUs earned from the Practicum.
