The course focuses on health economics and its application to assess healthcare interventions and programmes.
By the end of the course participants should be able to:
- - understand the rationale for measuring health and economic impact of healthcare intervention within the healthcare system;
- - distinguish between different forms of economic evaluation and, in a given context, give an explanation as to which approach should be used;
- - explain the costs and benefits (including QALYs and capability measures) categories used in an economic evaluation;
- - understand the basic concept of decision analytical models and their application in health economic evaluation;
- - interpret the results of an economic evaluation;
- understand how economic evaluation influences local and national healthcare decision making.
