Obiettivi formativi

Il corso mira a perfezionare le competenze comunicative avanzate in lingua inglese. Attraverso un approccio incentrato sui contesti accademici e professionali, gli studenti approfondiranno temi quali le professioni legate alla psicologia, le principali tipologie di disturbi e condizioni psicologiche e le relative responsabilità professionali. Il corso esplora inoltre la questione dei titoli accademici e delle loro equivalenze internazionali. Saranno consolidate le formule di saluto e di presentazione adeguate, nonché strategie efficaci per presentarsi in contesti professionali e accademici internazionali. Le attività di lettura e conversazione includeranno il confronto tra i percorsi post-laurea nel Regno Unito, negli Stati Uniti e in Italia, e la preparazione di presentazioni individuali per conferenze scientifiche internazionali. Il corso intende promuovere precisione linguistica e rilevanza disciplinare, favorendo una comunicazione chiara, sicura e adeguata ai diversi contesti accademici e professionali globali.

Contenuti sintetici

Il modulo è ideato per introdurre gli studenti a una varietà di ruoli professionali in psicologia, aiutandoli a sviluppare sia le conoscenze di settore sia le competenze linguistiche necessarie per discutere di queste carriere. Mira a approfondire la comprensione delle responsabilità, delle qualifiche e dei contesti lavorativi associati alle diverse professioni psicologiche. Esplorando questi percorsi professionali, gli studenti acquisiranno la capacità di utilizzare un vocabolario specialistico e di comunicare efficacemente sulla psicologia in contesti professionali diversificati, rafforzando al contempo le proprie competenze accademiche e professionali.

Learning objectives

This course is designed to develop advanced English communication skills. Through a focus on academic and professional contexts, students will explore key topics such as psychology-related professions, types of psychological conditions and disorders, and professional responsibilities. The course also addresses international academic titles and their equivalents, appropriate forms of address, and effective strategies for personal and professional introductions. Reading and speaking activities will include comparing postgraduate degree structures in the UK, the USA, and Italy, and preparing professional self-presentations for international conferences. The course combines linguistic precision with disciplinary relevance, supporting clear, confident, and context-appropriate communication in global academic and professional environments.

Contents

This module is designed to introduce students to a variety of professional roles in psychology, helping them develop both subject knowledge and the language needed to discuss these careers. It aims to deepen students’ understanding of the responsibilities, qualifications, and work contexts associated with different psychology professions. By exploring these career paths, students will build their ability to use specialised vocabulary and communicate effectively about psychology in diverse professional settings, while strengthening their academic and professional skills.
