Sustainable Development Goals
Aims
The objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda have placed new focus on the themes of sustainable development and ecological transition, particularly in environments characterised by strong anthropic pressure such as urban areas. To achieve the goal of making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, durable and sustainable, more and more attention is being paid to the planning strategies, at different scales: from the national, passing through the regional, metropolitan and urban ones.
Territorialization of sustainability strategies and initiatives is in fact pivotal in order to transfer to the local contexts general objectives and guidelines, and making possible the implementation of those policies constituting planning programmes. The course is set in this context with the aim of training students on the main issues concerning the planning of sustainable strategies for territorial systems, focusing in particular the attention on the system of mobility and transport of people and goods, as one of the main polluting segments of human activities, strongly impacting on quality of life and health. Attention is then dedicated to national and local policies for the sustainability of urban and territorial development and of the mobility and transport system, with the aim of training skills in urban and territorial planning.

• Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) as a tool to mitigate environmental impact.
• Mobility Management as a connection between technological and organizational sustainability strategies.

Analysis of the role and structure of the Sustainable Development Strategy and its regional declination
• the case of Lombardy Region;
• the analysis of the Milan Metropolitan City Strategic Plan;
• Milan Municipality PGT (Territorial Government Plan).
The Mobility dimension in territorial planning, as a key domain to address sustainability in cities and regions
• the macro-concepts of sustainable mobility and its main determinants and components;
• SUMPs (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans), as the main tools to mitigate mobility-driven environmental negative externalities;
• Mobility Management, as a bridging activity between technological and organizational dimensions of sustainable mobility development.
Prerequisites
No prerequisites are required.
Teaching form
2 CFUs of mixed theoretical and interactive lessons in the classroom (20 hours).
• 10 two-hour lectures, in person, Delivered Didactics.
Attendance to lectures and interactive exercises is highly recommended.

Assessment method
The final exam consists of a brief written elaborate at the end of the course which comprises the discussion of various topics covered in the course, with an emphasis also on the problematization of mobility-related issues in territorial planning and sustainable strategies development.
The final score will be between 18/30 and 30/30 cum laude, based on the overall assessment considering the following criteria:
(1) knowledge and understanding;
(2) ability to connect different concepts;
(3) autonomy of analysis and judgment;
(4) ability to correctly use scientific language.
