L'obiettivo primario del corso è fornire agli studenti le basi patofisiologiche per comprendere la semeiotica clinica e chirurgica e la fisiopatologia del sistema endocrino al fine di stabilire correlazioni tra i meccanismi delle malattie endocrine e la loro espressione clinica. Lo studente sarà in grado di interpretare sintomi, segni e test di laboratorio, nonché i risultati dell' imaging. Saranno forniti strumenti clinici per comprendere come alterazioni endocrine possono coinvolgere un singolo organo, differenti sistemi endocrini e portare a malattie sistemiche.

Malattie dell'ipotalamo e dell'ipofisi.
Malattie della tiroide.
Disturbi del metabolismo del calcio e del fosforo e malattie delle paratiroidi.
Malattie surrenali.
Ipogonadismo.

MALATTIE DELL'IPOTALAMO E DELL'IPOFISI: Fisiologia e valutazione diagnostica dell'ipofisi, Masse e tumori dell'ipofisi: non secernenti e secernenti (prolattina, GH, TSH, ACTH, FSH/LH), adenomi ipofisari, ipopituitarismo (panipopituitarismo e deficit ormonali selettivi), malattie neuropituitarie (diabete insipido, sindrome da secrezione inappropriata dell'ormone antidiuretico), MALATTIE DELLA TIROIDE: Ipertiroidismo (morbo di Graves-Basedow, Plummer, gozzo multinodulare), ipotiroidismo e tiroidite, nodulo tiroideo, cancro alla tiroide, DISTURBI DEL METABOLISMO DEL CALCIO E DEL FOSFORO E MALATTIE DELLE PARATIROIDI: Iperparatiroidismo, ipoparatiroidismo, pseudoipoparatiroidismo, malattia di Paget, osteoporosi. MALATTIE SURRENALI: Sindrome di Cushing, Malattia di Addison, iperaldosteronismo, feocromocitoma/paraganglioma e ipertensione endocrina. RIPRODUZIONE: Fisiologia e Patologia dell'Asse Riproduttivo Femminile, Contraccezione Ormonale, Disturbi Testicolari, Disfunzione Sessuale nell'Uomo e nella Donna NEOPLASIA ENDOCRINA MULTIPLA: MEN1, MEN2A, MEN2B.

Secondo semestre

  • Test a risposta multipla composto da 3 domande con una sola risposta corretta (tra 4) mirato a valutare la comprensione globale del programma del corso. Ogni risposta corretta vale 1.

  • Esame orale sugli argomenti trattati durante le lezioni, discussione sulla risoluzione di problemi clinici e analisi di casi clinici

  • Tutte le valutazioni saranno effettuate in lingua inglese

The primary goal of the course is to provide students with the pathophysiologic basis to understand the clinical and surgical semeiotics and the physiopathology of endocrine system in order to make correlations between the inner mechanisms of diseases and their clinical expression. The student will be able to interpret symptoms, signs and laboratory tests as well as imanging findings. Clinical tools to understand concepts of organ-limited disease, system involvement or systemic disease will be provided.

Hypothalamic and pituitary disease.
Thyroid diseases.
Disorders of calcium and phosphorus metabolism and parathyroid diseases.
Adrenal diseases.
Hypogonadism.

HYPOTHALAMIC AND PITUITARY DISEASES: Pituitary Physiology and Diagnostic Evaluation, Pituitary Masses and Tumors: non secreting and secreting (prolactin, GH, TSH, ACTH, FSH/LH), pituitary adenomas, hypopituitarism (panhypopituitarism and selective hormone deficiencies), neuropituitary diseases (diabetes insipidus, Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion) , THYROID DISEASES: Hyperthyroidism (Graves-Basedow, Plummer, multinodular goiter), hypothyroidism and thyroiditis, thyroid nodule, thyroid cancer, DISORDERS OF CALCIUM AND PHOSPHORUS METABOLISM AND PARATHYROID DISEASES: Hyperparathyroidism, Hypoparathyroidism, pseudohypoparathyroidism, Paget diseases, Osteoporosis. ADRENAL DISEASES: Sindrome di Cushing, Addison’s Disease, hyperaldosteronism, pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma and endocrine hypertension. REPRODUCTION: Physiology and Pathology of the Female Reproductive Axis, Hormonal Contraception, Testicular Disorders, Sexual Dysfunction in Men and Women MULTIPLE ENDOCRINE NEOPLASIA: MEN1, MEN2A, MEN2B.

  • Multiple choice test comprising 3 questions with only one correct answer (among 4/5) aimed at evaluating global comprehension of course program. Each correct answer is scored 1.

  • Oral examination on the topics covered during the lectures, discussion on clinical problem solving and clinical case analysis

  • All assessments will be done in English language
