Obiettivi
Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione
Consolidare le conoscenze teoriche acquisite nella didattica teorica sui benefici dell’allattamento, sulle linee guida internazionali (es. OMS, UNICEF), sulle dinamiche fisiologiche e psicologiche dell’allattamento, nonché sulle principali barriere sociali e culturali.
Comprendere i principi della comunicazione efficace e delle relazioni d’aiuto in ambito materno-infantile.
Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione
Applicare le conoscenze acquisite nella pratica clinica e nei contesti educativi, al fine di supportare efficacemente le madri nell’allattamento.
Utilizzare strumenti comunicativi e relazionali per adattarsi a situazioni individuali e culturali differenti, promuovendo scelte consapevoli.
Autonomia di giudizio
Sviluppare la capacità di valutare criticamente le situazioni legate all’allattamento e proporre interventi appropriati nel rispetto dell’autonomia della madre.
Riconoscere e gestire eventuali conflitti etici o comunicativi, promuovendo un approccio rispettoso, basato sull’evidenza.
Abilità comunicative
Saper comunicare in modo empatico, chiaro ed efficace con le madri, i familiari e i membri dell’équipe multiprofessionale.
Dimostrare abilità di ascolto attivo, mediazione e sostegno, fondamentali per favorire l’adesione consapevole all’allattamento.
Capacità di apprendimento
Sviluppare un atteggiamento riflessivo e orientato al miglioramento continuo delle proprie competenze teoriche, pratiche e relazionali.
Essere in grado di aggiornarsi in modo autonomo sulle evidenze scientifiche e sulle buone pratiche relative all’allattamento.
Contenuti sintetici
Lo/a studente/essa sarà in grado di concretizzare quanto appreso nella didattica teorica sull'allattamento attraverso simulazioni, discussioni di casi, esercitazioni su manichini e modelli.
Le esercitazioni ed i lavori in piccoli gruppi saranno guidati dalla presenza del tutor che favorirà lo sviluppo delle capacità pratiche e di quelle relazionali

Conoscenze di base sull’allattamento materno
- Benefici dell’allattamento per il bambino e per la madre
- Meccanismi di produzione del latte: ormoni e riflessi
- Fattori che influenzano l’avvio dell’allattamento
Falsi miti e credenze comuni
- Le convinzioni errate più diffuse (es. latte poco nutriente, allattamento ogni 3 ore)
- Come rispondere in modo corretto e rassicurante alle domande delle madri
Ruolo dell’ostetrica nell’ascolto e nel sostegno
- Importanza della presenza, dell’ascolto attivo e dell’empatia
- Elementi base della comunicazione efficace con le madri
- Come incoraggiare senza giudicare
Difficoltà e risposte pratiche
- Come riconoscere i segnali di un attacco scorretto
- Problemi frequenti: ragadi, ingorgo, poco latte
- Quando è necessario il consulto pediatrico
Contesto e relazioni di sostegno
- L’importanza del contesto familiare e sociale
- Il ruolo del partner, dei nonni e delle reti di supporto
- Come creare un ambiente favorevole all’allattamento
Allattamento e situazioni particolari
- Bambino prematuro o con difficoltà
- Madre che rientra al lavoro
- Allattamento e uso del tiralatte: aspetti pratici di base

- Dove trovare informazioni corrette e aggiornate
- Quando e perché rivolgersi a una consulente per l’allattamento

Esercitazioni su manichini e modelli; simulazioni in piccoli gruppi alla presenza del tutor che favorirà lo sviluppo delle capacità di agire con quelle relazionali.

Aims
Knowledge and understanding
To consolidate theoretical knowledge acquired during training on the benefits of breastfeeding, international guidelines (e.g., WHO, UNICEF), the physiological and psychological dynamics of breastfeeding, and the main social and cultural barriers.
To understand the principles of effective communication and helping relationships in the maternal and child health context.
Applying knowledge and understanding
To apply the acquired knowledge in clinical practice and educational settings, in order to effectively support mothers with breastfeeding.
To use communication and relational tools to adapt to individual and cultural situations, promoting informed choices.
Making judgments
To develop the ability to critically assess breastfeeding-related situations and propose appropriate interventions while respecting the mother's autonomy.
To identify and manage potential ethical or communication-related conflicts, promoting a respectful, evidence-based approach.
Communication skills
To communicate in an empathetic, clear, and effective manner with mothers, family members, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
To demonstrate active listening, mediation, and support skills that are essential for encouraging informed and confident breastfeeding decisions.

Contents
The student will be able to put into practice what he/she has learnt in the theoretical teaching on breastfeeding through simulations, case discussions, exercises on dummies and models.
The exercises and work in small groups will be guided by the presence of the tutor who will favour the development of practical and relational skills.

Basic knowledge of breastfeeding
- Benefits of breastfeeding for the baby and the mother
- Milk production mechanisms: hormones and reflexes
- Factors that influence the initiation of breastfeeding
Common myths and misconceptions
- Widespread false beliefs (e.g., breast milk is not nutritious, breastfeeding every 3 hours)
- How to respond accurately and reassuringly to mothers' questions
The midwife’s role in listening and support
- Importance of presence, active listening, and empathy
- Basic elements of effective communication with mothers
- How to encourage without judgment
Difficulties and practical responses
- How to recognize signs of poor latch
- Common issues: sore nipples, engorgement, low milk supply
- When a pediatric consultation is needed
Context and supportive relationships
- The importance of the family and social environment
- The role of the partner, grandparents, and support networks
- How to create a breastfe*eding-friendly environment
Breastfeeding in particular situations
- Premature or medically challenged infants
