Learning objectives

The main learning objectives of the course are:

Knowledge and understanding: The course offers the opportunity to deepen the variety of legal-philosophical dimensions of human rights with reference to selected areas of reflection, in particular environmental ethics and ethics of new technologies.
Applying knowledge and understanding: Students will have the opportunity to reflect on the challenges posed by environmental and climate change questions, and technological innovation to the framework of fundamental rights and to legal-philosophical categories.
Making judgments: Students will develop critical thinking through the analysis and reconceptualisation of traditional legal and ethical categories in order to make them fit for the current challenges.
Communication skills: Students will have the opportunity to refine their legal-philosophical technical vocabulary to autonomously discuss issues concerning human rights in a pluralistic perspective.
Learning skills: Students will enhance their bibliographic research skills.

The course deals with the ethical-legal questions stemming from the new challenges to the human rights framework. The course will critically examine how the human rights framework adapts to the complex challenges of climate change, sustainability, artificial intelligence, and neurotechnologies. In particular, new legal proposals will be analysed within the value-laden framework of fundamental rights to address the challenges of the digitalisation of society and of ecological transition
