Obiettivi formativi

Il corso intende ampliare le competenze linguistiche ad un livello professionale adatto all’industria italiana del turismo.

Contenuti sintetici

Il corso indaga l’offerta italiana in merito alle destinazioni turistiche come essa emerge da articoli pubblicati dalla stampa britannica. In tal modo si intende rendere gli studenti consapevoli sia dell’ampia varietà dell’offerta per la clientela britannica e che del vocabolario specifico (LSP) utilizzato.

Successivamente, il corso andrà a sottolineare il tipo di linguaggio e di strategie comunicative di chi opera nel settore a livello del personale e della clientela. Viene dato anche spazio alla pianificazione e alla realizzazione di presentazioni di vario tipo, e di conseguenza alla correttezza linguistica e alle tecniche espressive di maggior impatto.

Programma esteso

Gli articoli scelti affrontano la grande varietà di luoghi turistici, dal triangolo storico di Roma, Firenze e Venezia, i laghi e le zone di montagna, le isole e le spiagge meravigliose tra le più note così come i luoghi meno conosciuti e le sorprese nascoste e lontane dalla massa turistica.

L’analisi del lessico specialistico per promuove il turismo permette di approfondire il tipo di linguaggio, di stile a fianco delle strategie utilizzate da chi ricopre un ruolo manageriale a contatto con il personale, i fornitori e la clientela.

Una parte del corso è dedicata a come esprimersi in situazioni particolari, come trattare le lamentele e le richieste tra le più varie. Anche come organizzare e presiedere eventi, quali incontri, giornate di studio e convegni è un altro aspetto trattato nel corso.

Presentazione orale su aspetti pratici dell’industria turistica. Gli studenti devono essere in grado di pianificare una vacanza in Italia per turisti di madre lingua inglese identificandone la tipologia e offrendo loro un soggiorno consono (incluso viaggio, sistemazione alberghiera o altro, attività durante la giornata e attrattive).

Learning objectives

The course aims to extend student language competence for use at a professional level in the Italian tourist industry.

Contents

Articles taken from the British press will carry out a dual function. They will familiarize with the ever-increasing variety of holidays on offer, from the histpric triangle of Rome, Florence and Venice and the new entry Milan, as well as lakes, mountains, islands and breath-taking beaches , as well as lesser-known, adventure/activity locations and surprise off-the-beaten track discoveries. The articles will help extend vocabulary by presenting the lexical sets common to descriptions.

A second part of the course covers speaking skills, with the kind of language and strategies in opral communication. Practice will be given at staff and customer levels. Space is also given to planning and giving presentations - appropriate language, successful techniques and the art of speaking in public.

The course investigates the Italian offer of holiday destinations by means of the very rich coverage of the British press - this in order to further student familiarity with the wide variety of offers, as well as the specific lexical field adopted to attract potential clients.

A second part of the course covers the kind of spoken language and strategies used both at staff and customer level, both in private and public communication. Space will be dedicated to the planning and realization of presentations, the tecniques of publc speaking, appropriate language and successful techniques.

Detailed program

The articles familiarize with the wide variety of holiday locations on offer, from historic triangle of Rome, Florence and Venice, the lakes and mountain areas, the islands and breath-taking beaches, as well as the lesser-known beauty spots and the surprise off-the- beaten-track discoveries.

As well as reviewing the kind of lexis used to attract tourism, the course also indepths the kind of language and style and strategies used in managerial roles dealing with both staff, suppliers and clients. A section is dedicated on “ how to say it”, in situations like dealing with complaints and chairing meetings.

Time will also dedicated to planning and acting presentations.

Oral presentation of practical aspects of the tourist business. Students are required to plan a holiday in Italy of some mother-tongue English clients, identifying their typology and offering a suitable holiday (including travel, accommodation, activities, attractions).
