The Master's Degree Programme in Marine Sciences is built around three main types of activities:

- Compulsory courses and activities: These are courses and activities (e.g., traineeship, further linguistic knowledge) that all students must complete

- Compulsory multiple-choice courses (Electives within Groups): Students are required to select one or two courses from pre-established lists, as specified in the Teaching Regulations of their own enrolment year

- Activities "To be chosen by the Student" (Free Electives): You are allocated 12 Italian University Credits to be spent on activities of your own choosing. This selection may include:

- Courses from the pre-established lists that were not selected as “Compulsory Multiple-Choice Courses”

- Courses offered by other Master's degree programmes within the University

- Practical training activities valued at either 6 or 12 CFU

- Learning activities (6 or 12 CFU) taken during Eramus mobility

Moreover, students are allowed to include a maximum of 16 supernumerary credits in their study plan. The CFU and marks earned for these supernumerary activities do not count in the final average exam mark, but are reported in the Diploma Supplement. Students may select these supernumerary credits from the following options:

- Courses offered by this or other Master's Degree Programmes within the University.

- "Bbetween" and "iBicocca" activities provided by the University.
