Course Presentation

The Master’s Degree Programme in Marine Sciences offers an international curriculum taught exclusively in English, welcoming both Italian and international students. It is part of the Master’s Degree class in Environmental and Territorial Sciences and Technologies (LM-75), lasts for two years, and requires the completion of 120 university credits (CFU) for graduation.

This programme provides students with a robust cultural and methodological foundation across biological, chemical, ecological, Earth sciences, legal, and geographical disciplines related to the marine context. It particularly emphasizes analyzing natural processes, anthropogenic impacts, and environmental changes affecting marine areas, aiming to foster the conservation and sustainable utilization of marine resources. Detailed exploration of legal frameworks governing marine regions, integrated coastal zone management, and marine spatial planning is included, utilizing advanced cartographic tools and contemporary digital systems.

Hands-on fieldwork and laboratory analyses enhance students' grasp of marine ecosystems' complexities. The course embodies a strong multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, integrating geosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere, and atmosphere, ensuring coherent subject connection through collaborative activities led by faculty. Graduates will possess the ability to independently create tailored solutions and strategies, leveraging their expertise in scientific fields (chemistry, biology, ecology, and Earth sciences) as well as humanities (international law, geography, sociology). This equips them to analyze natural processes and environmental risks, comprehend state obligations and rights, and devise effective management policies to prevent, monitor, and alleviate anthropogenic impacts on coastal and ocean environments.
