Aims

To provide the concepts necessary for understanding embryonic development of the heart and fetal growth of the heart. To provide the concepts related to the anatomy of the heart and the vessels

Contents

The lessons will cover the most important aspects related to the anatomic and functional features of cardiovascular system, with focus on the anatomic description of the heart and major blood vessels. Students will acquire the basic knowledge required to recognize cardiac and vessels anatomy and understand the location, spatial relationships and function of its most important structures

Detailed program

  1. Anatomical concepts related to heart development

  2. The heart: basic concepts regarding cardiomyocytes, connective tissue, sinoatrial node, and the conduction tissue

  3. Anatomical concepts related to heart chambers and pericardium: normal and pathological aspects

  4. Anatomical concepts related to heart valves apparatus: normal and pathological aspects

  5. Anatomical concepts related to systemic circulation anatomy: normal and pathological aspects

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of fundamentals of biology, genetics, morphology, histology, physiology of the cardiovascular system

Teaching form

Lessons in attendance, subject to any ministerial changes following the COVID pandemic situation
