Obiettivi formativi

L’obiettivo del corso English Language for Business Management consiste nel consolidare le competenze di lingua inglese e sviluppare le abilità linguistiche necessarie per l'uso della lingua a scopo lavorativo. Alla fine del corso, i candidati devono dimostrare di aver acquisito una conoscenza generale della lingua inglese di livello B2 e una buona familiarità con il lessico business e con i temi esplorati nei testi letti e analizzati in classe.

Contenuti sintetici

Il corso si suddivide in dodici aree tematiche che verranno affrontate a lezione con l'obiettivo di sviluppare le competenze linguistiche di listening, reading and speaking. Le aree si concentrano sui temi più attuali del mondo corporate e business con particolare attenzione alla funzione comunicativa della lingua inglese.

Il corso si propone di affrontare i seguenti temi analizzando la lingua inglese dal punto di vista grammaticale e lessicale e comunicativo (functional and communicative language):

  4. Digital business
  5. Performance
  6. Ethics
  7. Time management
  8. Embracing changes
  9. Market research
  10. Sustainability
  11. Global mobility and international careers

I seguenti argomenti verranno trattati attraverso delle letture:

  • Female entrepreneurship
  • AI and business
  • International sport event and their economic impact
  • Climate benefit

Prerequisiti

Per poter fruire del corso è richiesta una conoscenza della lingua inglese almeno di livello B1, da accertarsi tramite le domande di grammatica presenti nell'esame (vedasi "Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento").
In caso di lacune, è consigliabile frequentare i corsi di Lingua inglese dei Collaboratori esperti linguistici.

Metodi didattici

Il corso si suddivide in dodici aree tematiche che verranno affrontate a lezione con l'obiettivo di sviluppare le competenze linguistiche di listening, reading and speaking.
Il Corso si compone di 42 ore, di cui indicativamente il 50% con didattica erogativa (lezioni frontali con utilizzo di slides, audio e video) e il 50% con didattica interattiva (esercitazioni, lavori in sottogruppo, esercizi che richiedono la partecipazione attiva degli studenti).
La docente si riserva la possibilità di rivedere tale suddivisione in base ai bisogni formativi degli studenti.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento

L'esame si svolge a computer nei laboratori informatici dell'Ateneo.

L'esame (vedasi voce "contenuto esteso"), di una durata di 90 minuti, è volto ad accertare il conseguimento degli obiettivi formativi di cui al punto 3.
L'esame si compone di esercizi di diversa natura quali:
domande di accertamento linguistico (grammatica) con opzioni
esercizi fill-in-the-gap con opzioni
reading and comprehension
esercizi di vocaboli business-related
una domanda a risposta aperta (max 200 parole)

Il voto ottenuto nell'esame è espresso in trentesimi.

Learning objectives

English Language for Business Management course aims at building on the already-existing knowledge of English to develop the further skills needed to use English in the job market.
By the end of the course, students will need to demonstrate their knowledge of general English (at least B2 level), their acquisition of business-related vocabulary and their awareness about the topics analysed through readings and texts.

Contents

The course revolves around twelve topics that are analysed during the lessons with the purpose of enhancing listening, reading and speaking skills. The topics are chosen based on the most relevant trends in corporate and business, with a focus on communicative language.

Detailed program

The course aims at presenting the following topics by analysing the language as for grammar and vocabulary and communication skills (functional and communicative language):

  1. Corporate culture
  2. Training and development
  3. Finance
  4. Digital business
  5. Performance
  6. Ethics
  7. Time management
  8. Embracing changes
  9. Market research
  10. Sustainability
  11. Global mobility and international careers

Readings will be assigned on:

  • Female entrepreneurship
  • AI and business
  • International sport event and their economic impact
  • Climate benefit

Prerequisites

To attend this course, a minimum B1 level is required, which will be tested through the grammar questions in the exam paper (see "Assessment methods")
It is strongly advisable to attend Linguistic experts' courses to stregthen language skills to reach at least a full B1 level.

Teaching methods

The course is composed of twelve topics that are presented during the lessons to enhance listening, reading and speaking skills.
The 42-hour corse will be divided approximately in two parts: 50% of the hours devoted to teacher-centred lessons (didattica erogativa) with slides and videos and the remaining 50% devoted to student-centred lessons (didattica integrativa) with Interactive tasks requiring the active partecipation by students.
The professor reserves the right to adjust this time allocation according to students' specific learning needs.

Assessment methods

The exam is computer-based and takes place in the laboratories.

The exam (see "Detailed program"), which last 90 minutes, checks the knowledge of the course materials (See Section 3).
During the exam, candidates are required to complete several tasks, such as:
grammar-related questions
fill-in-the-gap exercises (options given)
reading and comprehension
business-related vocabulary exercises
open question (to be replied in max 200 words)

The mark obtained in the exam is expressed out of 30.
