The course focuses on the history of the twentieth century, starting from the Great War, outlining the European and international events of the "short century". Particular attention will be dedicated to Italy in relation to the international context; after an introduction on the reasons and meaning of historical knowledge, tools, sources and methodologies will be presented for knowing and understanding the fundamental processes of the contemporary age, together with the main historiographical and methodological issues.
Through the course, students must acquire the essential knowledge and sufficient tools for the development of a critical reading of the events of the contemporary age, starting from the mastery of the main periodizations that mark the political, social and cultural history of the twentieth century.
