" This course explores the intricate relationship between science and policy, focusing on how scientific research influences policymaking and how policies impact scientific progress. It aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics between science and policy within the context of Italy and the European Union.

Through case studies, interactive discussions, and specific lectures, participants will learn to navigate the complexities of research policy development, implementation, and assessment. The course will also address contemporary challenges and geopolitical implications, fostering critical thinking and strategic decision-making skills essential for future leaders in both fields.

Additionally, part of the course will be dedicated to analyzing how the Framework Program of the European Commission is organized and contextualized to the different priorities of the Commission and of the Member States, and how the full spectrum of research is covered by different parts of the program, from fundamental research to industrial research, to research addressing societal challenges.

The transformation process of science into technologies and policies will be critically studied in practical cases.

Furthermore, the course will address the role of science advisors and their importance in advising governments and institutions, highlighting the challenges and responsibilities they face in bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and policymaking."
