Obiettivi formativi

Programma esteso

Learning objectives

The laboratory aims to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical tools required to integrate gender and generational perspectives into the design of social interventions. It seeks to develop students' ability to analyse social inequalities and needs through an intersectional lens and to translate such analysis into more inclusive, equitable, and effective social interventions.

Knowledge and understanding
Students will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the core concepts of Gender Studies, the Sociology of Generations, and intersectionality, with particular emphasis on their relevance for analysing social inequalities, social needs, and the processes involved in the design of social interventions.

Applying knowledge and understanding
Through laboratory activities and collaborative group work, students will develop the skills to apply gender-sensitive and generation-sensitive approaches to the analysis, design, and evaluation of social interventions in professional contexts. Particular attention will be devoted to the Theory of Change framework, gender and generational budgeting, and the development of evaluation indicators.

Making judgements
The laboratory will foster critical reflection on social inequalities by encouraging students to independently assess the implications of incorporating gender and generational perspectives into the design of social interventions and to critically evaluate existing social interventions.

Communication skills
Students will enhance their ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively, as well as to present and discuss the outcomes of their group project.

Learning skills
The laboratory is designed to strengthen students' capacity for independent learning and research by promoting the critical use of data and sources and engagement with interdisciplinary perspectives.

Contents

The laboratory examines gender and generational perspectives as key analytical frameworks for understanding contemporary social inequalities and needs. It guides students in integrating these perspectives throughout the different stages of the project cycle, from the analysis of social needs and the social and local context to the definition of objectives, through to the monitoring and evaluation of outcomes and impacts. Teaching activities combine lectures, case study analysis, guest lectures by practitioners, and collaborative group work leading to the development of a project proposal.

Detailed program

The laboratory is organised into three integrated modules.

Module 1
The first module introduces the main theoretical foundations of Gender Studies, the Sociology of Generations, and intersectionality, examining the contribution of these perspectives to the analysis of social inequalities, vulnerabilities, and social needs.

Module 2
The second module focuses on the social intervention design cycle, from problem analysis to the definition of objectives and expected outcomes. Particular attention is devoted to the Theory of Change framework, the design of inclusive activities, and the principles of gender and generational budgeting.

Module 3
The third module focuses on the evaluation of social interventions, with the aim of developing outcome and impact indicators to assess the effectiveness of interventions across different groups of beneficiaries. Learning activities include the analysis of datasets, institutional reports, and case studies.

Prerequisites

No specific prior knowledge is required.

Teaching methods

Lectures and seminars (40%): Introduction to the main themes and methodological frameworks through lectures, seminars, and guest lectures by practitioners.

Interactive learning activities (60%): Case study discussions, collaborative group work leading to the development of a project proposal, and practical exercises in data analysis and the development of evaluation indicators.

Assessment methods

Successful completion of the laboratory is contingent upon active participation, the quality of contributions to class discussions, and the completion and presentation of a group project.

Attendance of at least 75% of the scheduled teaching activities (18 out of 24 hours) is required.

The group project, to be completed in teams of two or three students, consists of the development of a project proposal for a social intervention that systematically integrates gender and generational perspectives.

Textbooks and Reading Materials

The reading list will be made available at the beginning of the laboratory and will be supplemented throughout the laboratory with additional readings and learning materials related to the topics covered.
