The international Master’s degree in Marine Sciences is offered jointly by the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy and The Maldives National University. The course provides with the skills to conceive solutions and develop strategies to solve marine and coastal areas problematic issues. In particular, the student will be prepared to study and analyse: a) natural processes and related risks, with reference to the marine ecosystem (chemical, biological, ecological, earth sciences fields); b) human interactions with the marine system (socio-economic and legal fields), for a policy of sustainable management and protection from anthropogenic risks in oceanic and coastal environments.
The access to the course is based on the following admission criteria:
- Bachelor’s Degree at MNQF level 7 OR level 8 in marine sciences or a related field (The Maldives national qualifications framework).
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Geology or related fields (International). Graduates with a high level of competence, but whose background is not entirely consistent with the requirements, may be admitted to an assessment test, to be held online. The selection committee will evaluate the education of the candidates in considering their admission to the program.
Language requirements: applicants must have a knowledge of English language at B2 level (or higher) of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
Lessons will be taught in English. After completion of the first common teachings, students can choose among three different tracks: ENVIRONMENT, BIO-ECOLOGY and HUMAN GEOGRAPHY. During the course, non-Italian students will be required to pass an Italian level B1, administered by the University of Milano-Bicocca (free).
Faculty will give face to face or video lectures; regardless of whether students attend class on-campus or remotely, a technology platform will allow them to follow and download lessons, read Syllabi, submit questions, take part in didactic chat rooms.
Each student will have access to library services, including lending of books, databases for scientific consultation, articles downloading, and much more.
The Master’s degree in Marine Sciences entitles to apply for admission in second level Masters or PhD schools.
