  • Language: Italian – English

To be admitted to the Master's Degree Program in Physics, applicants must hold a three-year undergraduate degree or university diploma, or a foreign qualification recognized as equivalent. Specific curricular requirements and an adequate personal academic preparation are also required. A good knowledge of English is recommended in order to successfully follow the many courses taught in English.

The curricular requirements are met by holding a degree in Class L-30 Physical Sciences and Technologies (under Ministerial Decree 270/04) or in Class 25 Physical Sciences and Technologies (under Ministerial Decree 509/99). Applicants with a degree in a different class must have at least 18 ECTS credits (CFU) in the Mathematics subject areas MAT/01–MAT/09 and at least 24 ECTS credits in the Physics subject areas FIS/01–FIS/08. Solid foundational knowledge is required in the areas of Mathematics (differential calculus and geometry), Classical Physics (both theoretical and experimental), and Quantum Mechanics.

Regarding the verification of curricular requirements, if the ECTS requirements in the specified subject areas are not fully met, a designated committee may assess the compatibility of the courses based on their content.

Once the curricular requirements are verified, admission is subject to the assessment of personal academic preparation, which is evaluated through an interview conducted by an appointed committee. This committee will assess the necessary knowledge and suggest a suitable path for the student to successfully pursue their studies. If the candidate's transcript does not clearly show sufficient preparation in Quantum Mechanics - even if acquired through individual courses and passed exams - the candidate will be required to take an exam in Quantum Mechanics on the topics specified below on this page.

Candidates who hold a Bachelor's degree in Physics (Class L-30 under DM 270/04 or Class 25 under DM 509/99) with a final grade of 90/110 or higher are exempt from the interview. Applicants who have completed or are completing a three-year degree program different from Physics are advised to contact the Coordinator of the Master's Degree in Physics before attending the admission interview in order to agree on how to acquire the necessary competencies for admission.
